I'm a single-player first, co-op second, competitive multiplayer third kind of guy.

But I definitely see the trend moving toward online multiplayer, which makes me a little bit worried. I wish developers would invest more in local multiplayer games, like we see on the Wii U.

I think a lot of people wish local splitscreen would make a come-back. There's something really nice about playing a multiplayer game with friends in the same room. It's less isolating, there's more energy in the room, and you don't have to juggle all the selfish, foul-mouthed players that you typically find in an online arena.

Campaign all the time for me, ive never really been able to embrace online gaming. The only game i really play online is Mario Kart 7, for the simple reason that i can be competetive in it. Something like COD im ok at ,but if i play online i get destroyed, as there are skillfull players who are so much better than me at it, getting murked every 5 seconds doesnt consist of fun for me. Im a noob lol

i usually just play through the campaign once, and if the game has a decent online i will play it a lot. i have to disagree with you on being able to never being able to be better than most people unless i play 12 hours a day online, in uncharted 3 i was better than most people (and still am ;) ) in no time really. you just need to learn the game, learn how to read the match and the events that happen, and ofcourse the tips and tricks, in any given game. killzone 2 was my first game on my ps3 and first game i play online, and i got better than most people in a relatively fast time

I may be old school but I buy games for there story/campaign, online is just a bonus to continue playing after I've completed the game itself, so adds replay value

Online gaming is something you have to invest in. The OP is a good example. It takes time to level up, learn the maps and gear and to polish your skills until you are where you want to be in that very competitive environment.

So therefore there's not many games I regularily play online, but once I do, I can put hundreds of hours into the online multiplayer and obviously that's more than the time put in a single player campaign of a typical game.

This is shooters I'm talking about mainly. Wonderful action games like Red Dead Redemption and Assassin's Creed don't have online modes that hook me.

Shooters like Crysis, Dead Space, Halo, Bioshock, Rage and Call of Duty I buy mainly for the single player campaign with no serious intention to invest in the multiplayer but in the case of Bad Company 2 and BF3 I didn't play the single player campaign at all.

Battlefield is all about multiplayer. Battlefield is so freaking good.

Campaign >>> Online.

Pretty much the only game I even touch online in is Monster Hunter.

I prefer the careful structure of a campaign to the messiness of an online match. Not to mention an unacceptably large proportion of players are unsportsmanlike and rude.

I love cod. So i bought mw3 on both 360 and ps3. The 360 cod community is absolutely terrible and rude. Now i just use the ps3

League of legends is particularly bad. Played a few games had to stop because of all the harassment from the more experienced players.

The fighting and pokemon community is pretty good. Got no complaints about them

But i do enjoy campaigns more

I dunno, I do a lot of both. Some games I buy for the Single Player and play MP eventually (e.g. Civ 5), some games I buy for MP and get around to playing the SP eventually (e.g. Battlefield)... and then you've got some that only allow you to do one of both, like Dayz or Fallout: New vegas... so yeah it varies, just depends on what I'm into at that time.

Single Player Campaign of course! and then multiplayer.
