Ratchet & Clank, the whole series. Hated the first game. Gave it a try again on PS3 (Tools of Destruction) and loved it. Went back and played all the games I'd missed, loved them. It's now one of my favourite series ever. But wouldn't have guessed that after how I felt from the first game!

Pikmin, the whole series. First one was thrown in when I bought a pre-owned Gamecube for £30 in about 2006. I didn't particularly want it. And it absolutely blew my mind.

Metroid Prime.

I moved from the US to the UK and my Gamecube wouldn't easily work with UK discs or power. So I chose a bundle with a game I'd once played a quick demo of, and that turned out to be the greatest game of all time ever completely objectively.

Xenoblade Chronicles: Of the "Rainfall" games (counting out Pandora's Tower), i thought it was the weaker of the two, and had long planned on avoiding it, until folks around here convinced me to buy it.

Mario Tennis: I distinctly remember buying it on a whim in a walk through Best Buy, one of my all-time favorites. No reason to avoid it, just that i didn't see the appeal of the sport of Tennis even if it had Mario on the cover

Knights of the Old Republic: A longstanding bias against WRPGs on my part. Khuutra is a persistent friend to have... (but i did enjoy it on the whole. BioWare does have talent).

Chrono Trigger. I took a chance on getting it for the ds but it was well worth it.

Bioshock: It didn't appeal to me when it first came out. I can't remember why, but I just didn't feel any need to play it even as stellar reviews flooded the internet. A year or so after it released my brother in law lent it to me and I figured I'd give it a try. It turned out to be freaking great.

Tron 2.0: It came out at pretty much the same time as Halo 2. I liked the original movie, but more for it's visuals than story. When Tron Legacy started getting hyped I remember that I had never picked up Tron 2.0. I bought it uses, poped it in and found one of the best first person shooters of all time. It has a surprisingly good story and the gameplay is both fast paced and stretegic. The visuals are top notch as well is the art style.

Splinter Cell Conviction: I never liked the original Splinter Cell. It was too stealth for me. I do like stealth games, but Splinter Cell lacked the fun factor that Metal Gear Solid had. If it wasn't for a cool trailer and the demo I'd have never given Conviction a try. I picked it up in a bargin bin and didn't even get around to playing it for about a year. When I finaly did play it I was blown away. It was exactly the kind of action/stealth game I love. You get to sneak around and kill silently, but you can also shoot your way out of situations. The story, writing, acting, and plot twists rival hollywood's best efforts, and the controls were perfect. I can't wait for Blacklist.

Mass Effect: When Mass Effect came out I was under the mistaken impression that it was standard RPG. What I mean is when you attack an enemy it doesn't matter if you hit them but instead the attack is determined by stats. I thought it was going to be like SW KOTOR. I enjoyed KOTOR, but I had lost my taste for standard RPGs. Around the time that Mass Effect 2 was hyping up I found out that the series had action style combat. I picked up a used copy of Mass Effect and loved every second of it. I preordered Mass Effect 2 and loved it even more than the first. Did the same and felt the same about Mass Effect 3. It's now one of my favorite game franchises, and comes in close to Halo for me.

Oblivion - Just didn't look like a game I'd like, but I tried it based on great reviews and lack of other choices at the time on PS3 and I loved it.

Fallout 3 - Even after Oblivion I still didn't call myself an RPG guy so almost let this one slip by which is no my most played game this gen besides CoD4 and I love it. I just tried it once I realized it was the same developer as Oblivion.

Portal 2 - Never really planned to play it as I never played the first one, but my buddy rented it and beat it Co-op and it was amazing fun.

Fallout 3. One day my now ex girlfriend gave me it because she didn't like it, I ended up stashing it somewhere in the back of my draw, where it remained for about a year. Then early this year I'm cleaning out my draw and I find it, played it the next week and continued to play it for many weeks more.

Mafia II. This one is quite recent. In fact, I'm still playing it. The other day I just stumbled upon the demo on steam and gave it a try. Bought it right away and I've been putting in at least 3 hours a day for the last few days. Makes me wonder how many great games just completely fly under my radar.

Sly Cooper series, didn't have time for it on the ps2, the HD collection set that right.
MGS3, same reason.

That's nothing compared to almost not playing Dark Souls.
It's a good thing I got absolutely bored with Skyrim and traded it in for Dark Souls.

Arkham City, Assassin's Creed, Prince of Persia and that long list of games I'm playing right now on PC.

Also, the third Ace Attorney is fantastic, you really should play it. (Don't miss the second one though!)

Mass Effect-when it came out I was against the whole WRPG movement, but with many recommendations from my friends I bought it and fell in love with it.

Dragon Age Origins-Since the games looked a little MMORPG-ish I didn't like it based on that alone, but early this year I got a ultimate for about $20 bucks and it was amazing

Deus Ex: Human Revolution- I just had some spare money and bought this knowing nothing about the series.
