Metroid Fusion. Would have never played it if I hadn't gotten it for free as an ambassador. It's awesome.
Ongoing bet with think-man: He wins if MH4 releases in any shape or form on PSV in 2013, I win if it doesn't.

God Hand. After playing DMC and GoW I wanted another beat em up. Found it in an online store for 9 euros, it was a Capcom game and Mikami was involved in it so I decided to pick it up despite the meh reviews. Best 9 Euros spent in a PS2 game ever. Better than DMC and GoW if you ignore the graphics.
mass effect. I used to think it was just some dumb xbox exclusive then mass effect 2 came out on ps3 i tried it and now its my favourite series ever.
Metro 2033. I had never heard anything about the game nor the books, but it was on sale and I liked the little info that was available for it. (That fact that it was described as a survival horror themed shooter and was set in the metro...)
I almost bought some Halo Reach DLC instead, but know for sure that I made the right decision in the end. Probably put hundreds of hours into this title thus far.
The Walking Dead.
I don't even remember the conversation that got me on the path to downloading this game but Badgenome said it was awesome and I gave it a shot. That was a few of the most engrossing and personal hours I've ever had with a video game. I've never even watched the show......but that changes tonight. Netfilx, here I come!
I guess I could name a few more.
Halo ODST and Halo Anniversary. Didn't want the games because I'm not really a FPS fan (though now, I think I kinda am). My kid and I did a playthrough of Halo Reach together and it was so much fun that I went and bought both of those games the next day. Halo deserves the accolades it gets.
Street Fighter x Tekken: I was pissed at Capcom for their DLC practices and decided not to get this game at all. I was always a Street Fighter whore but I had had enough. The Vita version lured me back in and I suspect that I'll be playing this game for years to come.
Dragon's Dogma: Not even my style of game. I just took a chance on playing something new--mostly based on the idea of making a sexy character. I mean it. I buy games just so I can create beautiful women. Anyway, the game blew away all expectations and may just be my personal game of the year.
Resistance Burning Skies: A great game? Probably not. That doesn't change the fact that I played through this game repeatedly when I got it. The reviews for this game were abysmal. I had absolutely no interest in this game. I just got it to have something to show off to my co-worker who loves FPS titles. To this day, I still haven't showed the game to him. That doesn't matter, though. I have ONE Platinum Trophy to my name on the PSN. It belongs to this game. I just could not stop playing it.
Rayman Origins: Another game that was just overlooked because I was having too much fun with other games. We were in the mall in Florida and I was trying to get the store clerk to sell me a copy of Resident Evil Revelations a day early. He wasn't budging. I didn't want to leave empty handed and my kid grabbed the game off of the shelf. It was love ever since. A beautiful, creative, and fun game.
Just Dance.. My gf demand that i would buy that game for the wii.. Incredible fun game.. Now the yearly sequels are a day 1 purchase..

Portal: Valve was giving it away for free one weekend, so I decided to get back on Steam for the first time in a long while and grab it because I can't pass on a free game. Loved it, and after Portal 2 it became one of my favorite series ever.
God of War: Saw my brother playing it once, and while it looked fine it seemed like another Devil May Cry, which is good but it's not something I'd rush out and play. During my trophy whoring phase I decided to get the GoW games because they are easy to platinum. Best thing by far to come from that stupid obsession. Such epic games, and I cannot wait for Ascension.

That's exactly what happened with me.
