Forums - Gaming - Assassin's Creed III reviews in - no GOTY material here

Yeah, I'm not sure if it's just becuase I'm like 5 feet away from my HDTV, or becuase I'm on Ps3 (I always thought they made it on the PS3 first), but there are some persistent graphical issues in this game. I mean, sound effects, voice acting, score, story, characters, and art direction are all top notch, but some of the graphics really hurt the game. Same thing happened to skyrim. absolutely great in 95% of all categories, but dem glitches!

I had one cutscene where the ship's captain was speaking but his face wasn't animating, his expression was blank. It was funny.

Im at the third act. Screw the reviews, this is the best AC I've ever played.

The only things I don't like about the AC engine is: Horrible screen tearing (don't know if it's in this one too), flickering shadows (evident in that video), awkward clipping issues and facial animations are sometimes lackluster.

Yeah, there's always a lot of screen tearing in Assassin's Creed.

But what does clipping issues actually mean?

When objects go through other objects when they shouldn't be able to, like hands through clothes or a collar through (into) the neck. I notice this a lot in AC games. Oh and the Digital Foundry article is up for it, looks like there is no screen tearing this time around! That is great news.

Example of clipping:

Ahhh, of course. Gotya.

But in your example, how should the issue be solved on the second screen? From my experience the far majority of games would choose to have the gun "clip" into the leg.

Thought so. I am happy to hear that.

Now, I only judge from footage, but the gameplay clips I've seen are one of the most epic footage I've seen. I didn't like the setting at first but I'm totally over that now, both the landscapes, characters and acting seem to be AC quality.

Technical issues don't bother me. They almost never bother me.

By making the guy move the gun a bit differently I guess. It's harder to do, but possible. Some games have almost no clipping at all. But when games have much clipping it always feels so cheap to me and takes me out of the experience.

Yeah, me too. Hopefully some smart engine developer solves it just in time for next gen.

its the best AC i've played so far aswell. the reviews were right about the glitches though but they're only minor and can probably be fixed easily with a patch. i think they kinda rushed it to get it out this year. the graphics are SWEET though.

Hands down best AC.

As others have said theres certainly some technical issues and glitches but the graphics are GORGEOUS

Some of these reviews confuse me. Played some with my mate today. And its alot more fun than any of the others.

Why do some reviews appear to have agendas these days.

Im leaning towards saying to everyone dont listen to any reviews of this game. It easily is better than games such as GTA4 for example. I wonder what these reviewers scored that game?

I'm only half way through the game. I like the game, but it took forever to get going. It started out really slow, but it really doesn't hit it's stride, until act six. I love the look and feel of the game, but I just like the previous locations better. I liked building the city better, then the homestead missions. Ezio was just a much better character then, connor. The connor character feels kind of one dimesional so far. For me personally, the frontier location and the naval gameplay is were the game really shines. battling in a big ship is just a real blast and the frontier location is more beautiful to look at,then the city locations. I pesonally love the game, but not as much as the other ones. I'd probably give it a 7/10 so far.

I don't know but I think the reviews are being picky. This is the most ambitious Assassin's Creed ever. i got to sequence 3 last night and i have seen some decent improvements over previous AC's. Combat seems better, the characters are memorable and funny (i love the range of accents you hear throughout Boston), the city is big, you have a lot more stealthy actions now (eg you can hide in cover and whistle to get a guard over to then kill him). Weather is a big deal here and there are a lots of animals (i spotted at 10 already, 8 in Boston!) Plus there seems to be a real city environment, something seems to always be happening in this game

So far, i'd say it's the best creed since Assassin's creed II but i'll have to see how the story pans out as i haven't seen Connor yet, only Haytham.
