Forums - Sony - My PS3 is dying need some advise

Rafux said:

My 3 years and 8 months old PS3 fat 80GB is dying, still play the majority of games (PS All Star Beta, Rayman Origins, RE6) but it turns itself off in the middle of gameplay with other games like Uncharted 3, LittleBigPlanet 2 or NFL Blitz.

Should I sell it as is and buy a new super slim or should I try to fix it myself (help please)?

But a new console. Once they go bad, they just never run the same. With hardware, it just degrades after time. There isn't any going back, that's for sure. So if you can afford it, I say do it.

I suppose you should have opened it then fry some burgers...lol

Honestly just get a new one I'd say, but if you're low on cash visit a local gaming store (Not Gamestop), they usually offer fixes for cash.

Hahaha the though did cross my mind. I don't live in USA so I'll have to wait until I friend comes over to my country.

Put it in the freezer for a few hours. Trust me, it works!

I think you should definitely get the super slim,i have the same model like you for about 4 years now and i'm planning to replace.

A late follow up to my problem: After cleaning dust inside and reapplying the thermal paste my PS3 continued with the same problem so today I sold it as is for 130$ which is all profit since I won my PS3 for free from gametrailers almost 4 years ago.

Now if I only live in USA I'll snatch one of those 199$ bundles.

Sorry....I guess you didn't get to your heat sinks in time.

I wish I could have helped earlier.
