Forums - Sales - X360 is the most successful console of the gen

What was Gamecube's tie ratio again?

Not as high as Xbox or PS2 tie ratios. The Xbox has the all-time highest tie ratio, which furthers his point that tie ratio is a good predictor of brand growth.

However, the 360, PS3, and Wii tie ratios don't compare to their predecessors, so I think by this logic I can say that all of the brands are, in fact, weakening.

This also tells us that PS3 got second place! Wii a sore loser behind the big boys

Disagree with you as usual

One might think you just like to disagree with me . Soon enough, PS3 will both be in second place hardware-sales wise and tie-ratio wise.

Dude, we never agree haha Itll pass 360 hardware wise but people always buy games more on 360.  Be realistic.....Do you know why nobody will say sony was a success this gen?  Step back a moment and really think about that, or do I need to say it?

The real reason for the high tie ratio though is that 360 sales are *heavily* skewed towards the US, and US gamers buy the most games by far. Wii and PS3 have a much more even WW distribution. Japan especially, hurts the tie ratio for them.

X360 has a higher tie-ratio than the PS3 and the Wii in N. America, Europe AND JAPAN.

@BenVTrigger

I suspect that your actually wrong with your analysis. While the Wii won the hardware war. I think that is probably the only war they actually won. I curse the lack of decent tools on this site, but I think that Microsoft has probably sold far more software, generated more revenue, and likely has strengthened their brand. I suspect that Nintendo would gladly take Microsoft's victory over their own. Maybe I am wrong prove to me that Nintendo won anything beyond the number of consoles sold.

@ Dodece

Unfortunatly you are incorrect.

Wii sold more consoles. Wii sold more 1st party software. Wii sold more 1st party periphreals and add ons. Wii generated more revenue. And Wii generated more profit.

MS did very well for themselves this generation but certainly did not do as well overall as Nintendo

it all depends on what you call success. imo the Wii is the most successful because it made the most money.
I am not sure about this, but has Microsoft yet to make back the money the lost this gen?

It has nothing to do with growth, but everything to do with where the console sells the most: http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/post.php?id=4853200

I agree. It also has to do with third-party support (of which 360 had the most due to an earlier start), I believe.

My point is that by his logic the 360 is actually less successful than its predeccosser, which I find to be hilarious and completely false. Like you were saying, GameCube's tie-ratio didn't mean squat when it came to sales of its successor, and none would argue against the massive growth of the Nintendo brand in recent years.
