The D-Pad is bigger on the phat. The a/b/x/y buttons are same size but flat on the phat and rounded on the lite. I like to use the phat when there's not a bunch of small text to read. I also much prefer the phat when playing a tune on Jam Sessions. When I'm traveling I'll take the lite.
the larger Dpad does sound nice. But really, the buttons are just so tiny. I feel it the most playing Mario Kart. I either feel very uncomfortable holding down the gas or feel comfortable yet frustrated while applying both the gas and the brake.
They should make the DS's in their brain training bundle have larger buttons. No worries about small children on that one.

I'm going to agree with stof on this issue, the DS has tiny buttons and its hard to hold for anyone over the age of 7, make it the size of a top loader NES, my man hands are crushing it ;)

Nay, friend. You've only got it partially right. True gamers (like me) own five DS's, including one DS Phat, for all the DS playing needs you could ever dream of.

I'm happy with the feel of the DS Lite.
Oh, and by the way, two of those DS's will be leaving my possession soon enough.
