"Every" means "all."
"Any" means "at least one."
"Vita" means "life."

I said nothing of sales. The West is all about tablets and devices that can do everything and lets be honest. Besides pokemon and a few other franchises we like Westernized games. The Vita will bring it. Nintendo has dropped the ball on the 3DS in the West. Does not mean it will fail, just that it will stay ahead in Japan. Like the PSP ended up doing in the end.
A Mario game a year in the West will not keep the momentum going. Just like one or two big games a year on the PSP did not matter. |
The flaw with your logic is no one wants to play a crappy, watered down version of Call of Duty on a 5-inch screen to begin with. Americans love their big screen TV and high end graphics. The "dudebros" audience won't touch a handheld game device with a 50-foot-pole.
The DS never had great Western content either. The PSP always had more Western-centric games like several 3D Grand Theft Auto games, God of War, SOCOM, Medal of Honor, etc. and the DS still wiped the floor with the PSP in the West.
The "wacky" Japanese 3DS games are fine for the West, because the handheld market in the West is more of a kids market. In which case ... Mario and Pokemon trump Assassin's Creed by about 100x.
Also no one is going to pay $40 games for handhelds in general, lol. Nintendo is the only one that can get away with it because of their established fanbase, but everyone else selling at that price is screwed.
Why should I pay $40 for a watered down Call of Duty when for a mere $20 more I can get the real CoD on PS3/360/PC? Yeah, good luck getting teenagers and college age students to bite on that. Because I can play it on the go? No thanks.

The only thing I really disagree with is that Nintendo can get away with charging $40 for most of its current products.

I'll agree with that, but at least in the short term, Nintendo is still selling a reasonable number of 3DS units in the West and games like Mario Kart 7, Mario 3D Land, and NSMB2 are selling at least OK, compared to Sony which is selling a laughable amount of hardware and has virtually no chart presence in software in America.
Yeah, i used to do drugs in the past also Ryan...

The Mario and Pokemon games can likely get away with it, as can some of their other big hitters like Zelda and Animal Crossing. But I disagree with their strategy of pricing most of their games at higher price points than last generation. I'm thinking specifically of their new Crosswords game ($10 more than the DS version), or charging $40 for games like Style Saavy (sic) or the N64 ports. $40 for a handheld game just feels like a lot to me, something which likely goes double for parents in particular.

Sounds like a very good analogy of the current situation for PS mortis...I mean Vita!!!
I do not believe that the Vita will even acheive the current LTD sales of the 3DS during it's entire life span. The 3DS is already 18.2Mil ahead of the Vita...the Vita isn't ever going to catch up....Anyone who thinks it will is dreaming....
