Ok, So to get this straight

  • No Next gen handheld until after 2010
  • Maybe a facelift of the DSLite

I really would like to see Nintendo segment their hand held market with 2 machines which both play DS games as follows

  1. Standard DS Lite
  2. DS Advanced; With larger screens, thinner design, better battery life, MP3 player as standard, and downloadable content from the Wii.
I do see a need for a machine to go more head 2 head with the PSP to slow their market growth. 30% of the handhelds this gen are the PSP, which means sony has made very good inroads in this area.

Christmas 2011

Two balanced microprocessors, with graphics about on par with the Xbox/Gamecube, though perhaps a bit less

One large, vertical touchscreen that can rotate into a "horizontal mode" similar to the PSP's screen

Full DS backwards compatibility in "vertical mode"

1 GB built-in flash memory for storing demos, Virtual Console and WiiWare-equivalent games

It'll implement many of the features found in the Wii, including a built-in web browser, weather channel, and a way to transfer your Miis

It'll likely be called the "Nintendo 3S," after the three ways that you can play it (vertical, horizontal, and DS emulation mode).

  • What should Nintendo do increase and continue their domination in the hand held market?

And my thoughts. Well it would be cool to see the discs rolling in replacing the cartriges so in games like Pokemon you can have more than one file. (and of course, better graphics) Maybe they should add the inclusion of the Memory Stick so that the DS2 can play music and movies. and can also have more saved files. This would be kinda like the PSP which would help its domination The best time for Nintendo to release the new console would be when the DS is nearing or approaching the sales of the PS2. (Any predictions on when?)  It would be dumb for Nintendo to release one right now because the Lite is still selling pretty well. (Althoough it would be cool for us) Another good time would be when Sony release the next PSP. (most likely to be called PSP2) so that Nintendo has something new as well and not allowing sony to get a head start.

I think they'll release the next Gameboy in 2010, along with fluttering support of DS. Kind of like what they did with the GBA when the DS was released, it was semi supported.

The next Gameboy will be almost as graphically superior as PSP2, but will sell not on innovation like the DS, but on the Gameboy name. It will make a new modern name for itself and reemerge as the leader in handhelds. It will have full online, play all past gameboy games, and will have Wii and Wii2 support.

 So in other words a nintendo PSP which will fail for at least one of the same reasons as the sony PSP?

 

Long load times do not go well with handhel gaming.
