Ever since people just want to complain, and don't realize the added costs of the features they're seeking. (Achievements is a bit more understandable mind you).

Regarding the headset, it may not require a jack, let's not jump to conclusions.

it's not about just wanting to complain.  it's a really important feature.  i hate that the ps3 doesn't have it ... it is soo much harder to get my friends together to actually play a game with just the in-system text support thusly relying on outside sources like email and phone numbers get everyone in the same game at the same time.  cross game chat is fundamental to why xbox is a much much better social experience than the ps3.

flat out - if ps4 doesn't have cross-game chat i'm going xbox next gen.

Don't worry, it will. Even the Vita has it.

Nintendo will regret this later. Achievements/Trophies are now an industry standard. You can't not have these things in a supposed "next-gen console".

Cross Game Chat isn't as important unless you are a social gamer, but still, it is 2012, Wii U is supposed to be a next-gen console. Get it together Nintendo.

Guys, I have found the answer:

Cross game chat would shift a decent amount of focus away from Miiverse... And Nintendo really want Miiverse to become a thing.

i hope so.  i'm pretty sure it will but still, it better.

i just don't get how nintendo doesn't get it.  they talk and talk and talk about the social experience of gaming and how important it is.  how can they get it soo well when it comes to "in the living room" social and fail so badly when it comes to online.   facebook/twitter/xbl/ect.  it should be damn obvious that being social doesn't stop of the wall of my living room in this day and age.

Sony have said on many occasions that x game chat isn't on the PS3 because of hardware (RAM) limitations. You can clearly see they would have added it if that wasn't the case, for example with the Vita they did add in x-game chat for everyone, not just PS Plus members.

There is no concievable justifying reason as to why Nintendo didn't add it. Their console is more than capable of it and it is a feature that millions of people use who play multiplayer. I end up using it all the time as well as almost every other person I have ever known on Live. Perhaps it isn't a feature that isn't going to make or break your purchase, but when did the idea of giving customers simple convenience become so obsolete?

The pro controller issue doesn't seem very fixable, but I at least hope that they can add this in at a later point. X game chat would work so well with the types of SP games that nintendo makes that its almost sad that they didn't put it in.

How would cross game chat work well with nintendo's single player games?

Being able to talk to a friend while playing. What many of us do while playing on XBLA.

In all honesty that is the only reason that makes sense.

You should include PC's - it has cross game chat from both first and third parties.  MMO's like World of Warcraft and other rely on cross game chat for people to organize teams of 50+ to invade the enemy capitol cities.  Sometimes people just gather a large group of people to do fun and zany things.  Once I was involved in a WOW event group where we took 50 first level characters into enemy territory and jump off a bridge en mass.  It was hilarious and one of those sparkly moment of fun.  We were no threat being so low levels even in mass.  (Other times we took our high level charters in for invasions – we were threats and that was fun too!)

Even though it is built into World of Warcraft, most everyone uses a third party chat system, that you have to pay for separately.  Microsoft actually does a great job having excellent quality in game chat as part Xbox live service.  It adds another great element to the gaming community – someone can ask for help getting through a tough part of a game.  Or a community can play together one their gaming group dates.

I think leaving this out – especially as they are marketing the WiiU and TiiV as a community they are making a huge blunder.  A blunder bigger than Microsoft RROD console launch problems – that has been fixed and their fail rate is now lower than Sony’s.  Nintendo says they are trying to build a community console – yet leaving this out?

Seems like a major and an important missed opportunity.

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

Top 50 'most fun' game list coming soon!

Tell me a funny joke!

To the op:

Don't rationalize this: it's a bad move, and there isn't a good excuse for it. Just let it go. Nintendo can be wrong. It happens. Move on.

What a stupid excuse. They are just copying Sony as always, plain and simple.

If it's truly needed or wanted by their consumers, they can put "cross chat" in with a firmware update. No biggie.

In the wilderness we go alone with our new knowledge and strength.

Oh well they could add that in later via an update I believe im not to concerned about that right now.
