MMO's like World of Warcraft and other rely on cross game chat for people to organize teams of 50+ to invade the enemy capitol cities. Sometimes people just gather a large group of people to do fun and zany things. Once I was involved in a WOW event group where we took 50 first level characters into enemy territory and jump off a bridge en mass. It was hilarious and one of those sparkly moment of fun. We were no threat being so low levels even in mass. (Other times we took our high level charters in for invasions – we were threats and that was fun too!) Even though it is built into World of Warcraft, most everyone uses a third party chat system, that you have to pay for separately. Microsoft actually does a great job having excellent quality in game chat as part Xbox live service. It adds another great element to the gaming community – someone can ask for help getting through a tough part of a game. Or a community can play together one their gaming group dates. I think leaving this out – especially as they are marketing the WiiU and TiiV as a community they are making a huge blunder. A blunder bigger than Microsoft RROD console launch problems – that has been fixed and their fail rate is now lower than Sony’s. Nintendo says they are trying to build a community console – yet leaving this out? Seems like a major and an important missed opportunity. |
If it's truly needed or wanted by their consumers, they can put "cross chat" in with a firmware update. No biggie.
