Damn! I didn't know Hudson Soft and Hudson Enterainmen had went down. There there goes my hope of a new age version of Bomberman 64.

Nearly all of them were too busy chasing that HD dream that led to their own demise.

So maybe 5 big names on that list ?

Seriously most of them just didn't have the quality to make a game that's profitable enough. Call it natural selection.
The remaining studios were tied to publishers with too high or just different expectations. 38 Studios made a good enough job with Kingdoms of Amalur and it sold well enough (not even 12 months old so still selling). The same is true for Team Bondi.
Microsoft axed Ensemble without a specific reason etc.

And it's not like these devs are forever gone. They'll just work with a different group of people.

Developers underestimated HD-development, underestimated the Wii and overestimated the PS3 and 360

That defines this gen. Hopefully, when the new gen come sin next month, there won't be a repeat. If there is, gaming is doomed.

Nintendo killed Team Sora. They're evil.

Ongoing bet with think-man: He wins if MH4 releases in any shape or form on PSV in 2013, I win if it doesn't.

That's true but quality also comes from experience. Most small game devs only have 1 shot now to make a good game or else they're screwed. Take Naughty Dog for example, their first 3 games were terrible however since they started in an era where production values weren't extreamly high they could afford to have flops and learn from their mistakes. This also applies to Square Soft because they had so many unsuccessful games so Final Fantasy was meant to be their last game hence it's name.

Ehhh... I don't think it's the console manufacturer's fault which studios go out of business.

There hasn't been many big name developers that closed in the first place. Most developers that shut down were no name developers.

You can't really believe the bolded. If the answer was as obvious as you suggest, then discussion would be impossible, making this thread pointless.

I honestly don't know much about the developers that have gone out of business.

I'll just say Nintendo, because lilbroex probably wants us all to say Sony.

You can't really believe the bolded. Do you honestly think this thread was created to foster engaging even-sided discussion?
