I agree. It also nicely demonstrates that, once you get to a certain threshold, content trumps price in every way.

There's a new Wii controller debuting alongside a new 2D Mario game, so I think the Wii will be fine this holiday at least.

Wii's been dead for a while now. They released basically nothing for it the last year, it's the most pathetic finish for a supposed "market leading" console ever.

360 and PS3 will probably close the gap quite a bit from here on out.

Well you don't need to be a rocket scientist to figure that out. With no notable software coming from... uh... the beginning of this year forward, the Wii is already dead. Nintendo discontinuing production on the system (probably late next year / early '14) will just be a formality as they try to coax customers into buying a Wii U.

On a more serious note, Wii U is coming out for that reason I think, Nintendo knows the Wii sales is dying down a lot.

I never thought Wii could pull off a boost even with the holidays but I must admit Wii (or what I've seen from Apple and its fanbase), Blue Ocean has always surprised me, and has proved me wrong in the past. All I know, Wii could not possibly compete with PS3/Xbox360 any longer, specially when Nintendo themselves has all seemingly abandoned it in the last year or so and even more so by releasing another console.

So Microsoft plans on ripping people off next gen? I would never pay for that unless the next Xbox is EXPONENTIALLY more powerful than the PS4. Which we know is impossible unless they want to create a huge PC-like chasis.

They need to push the Wii at an affordable level in Latin America and other alternative markets. Reggie said something to this effect not long ago: http://www.engadget.com/2012/09/13/nintendo-wii-latin-america-eastern-europe/

There's a difference between saying and doing, however. The Wii could still hit 105m, but after how badly they've handled it over the last 20 months I'm not getting my hopes up.
