Forums - Sony Discussion - Gran Turismo Demo at 4K Resolution Described as “Absolutely Stunning”

Tagged games:

That was not actually 4K. GT5 actually runs at 1280 x 1080 rather than 1920 x 1080. That means the actual resolution in that demo was 2560 x 2160 (5,529,600 pixels)...an entire 1920 x 1080 screen short (2,073,600 pixels) of true 4K resolution: 3840 x 2160 (8,294,400 pixels).

I'm not trying to say the demo didn't look impressive but I don't like seeing false notions thrown around like facts. That was not true 4K resolution.

Sony is pushing the new Bravia 4k resolution and the PS4 will support this resolution for sure...

 4k is 2160p = 2x 1080p (4x more pixels)

The actual GPU series from AMD and nVIDIA support 4k resolution.

again - what means "support" in this case? that you can hook up your gpu/console to a 4k-tv. nothing more and nothing less. this has nothing to do with the quality of the images/games that are to put out through the interface. the tv will upscale no matter what internel res was used by the gpu.

Support means... the PS3 can render and output 4k resolution like any mid/top GPU from nVidia/AMD can but all games is use this resolution? No. Games like WipEout? Yes. Games like Uncharted? No.

That's what "support" means.

I think this is amazing! Sony will clearly push 4K soon and I think the ps4 will support 4k games.. In 3/4 years time 4k will be everywhere and hopefully Sony can be at the top of it.

You seriously think we will be playing full retail 4k games on the PS4 and that 4k tv's will be mainstream in 3 years?

no and er.... no.

why not? its not really impossible, and In less than 4 years LED tvs took off.

So your telling us that PS4 wont be truly viable until its at least 3-4 years old

I don't know, but why not?

Well itll drive up costs in the early adoption stage, and could alienate most buyers in the first few years. Most people still have Plasma/LCDs, only recently been buying LEDs. You need a console that you can utilize day 1 or else the road to that viability will be rough.

but it isn't impossible, and thats my original point.

So instead of "forcing" me to buy a new Ps4 for 999 dollars I could buy 2 more used PS3s for like 300 dollars total and have a new super console with 300% the power? MAKE THIS HAPPEN SONY!

Or lets say the PS4 can run awesome looking games in FullHD(4k is bullshit and will never happen with a PS4 when it comes to real "AAA"games) wouldnt it be awesome to connect a PS3 to the PS4 just to add 10000x AA or something?

What I read the demo was running at 3840 x 2160.

The demo is a not GT5 itself... it a modifcation version of GT5 (or maybe a development version of GT6).

Yes, just like GT5 itself is upscaled to display 1920 x 1080 event though it's actually rendered at 1280 x 1080.

Now the event in 2008 was usuing GT5 prologue which does indeed run natively at 1920 x 1080 and was true 4K.

The demo now is a way better than the last one... and it is TRUE 4k too.

And yet still no car damage? :P

Did you even read the comment you quoted?   I just told you the curent demo is GT5 which runs at 1280 x 1080 so the actual resolution of that demo was 2560 x 2160 and not 3840 x 2160.   It was upscaled to 3840 x 2160.   The first demo in 2008 was using GT5 Prologue which does render at 1920 x 1080 as was indeed a true 3840 x 2160 demo.

Did you read the Demo is not GT5??? The UI is different, there are other elements too... that's a demo... that's all.

Some guys even thinks the Demo is a GT5 Prologue based too... I think it's a development version for what in PD is working for GT6... and I'm not saying it is GT6, I'm saying this Demo is a development version and it can run in any resolution PD wants.

PD can get the GT5 and change it to render in 1080p... it's not too hard because the development version os the game can run in any resolution... it's fixed when run to final uses in consoles.
