Forums - Movies & TV - Dark Knight Rises' Cinematographer Calls Avengers "Appalling"

Oh give me a break. TDR was a boring affair. I fell asleep through that plodding mess. Bane was a boring villain, his back story was retarded at best and unimaginative. The most intriguing element of TDR was Catwoman. TDR was not even half as good as Batman Begins let alone The Dark Knight.

I hate to be the film snob asshole, but he's right: Avengers was not only shot badly, but the characterizations were all wrong (every freaking character does NOT need to be one of Joss Whedon's snarky assholes(TM) and/or Robert Doenwy's Iron Man Redux), and the plot holes were horrific, even when we allow that some things 'have to happen' for a movie like this to work.

The difference is one of them is actually a superhero movie.

The other one isn't trying to be

Hence why it's not as good as the former.

I thought it was common knowledge that Avengers was the Transformers of Super Hero movies?

Say what? Have you seen The Avengers? Even if it was not your favorite movie of all time most people would agree that it was entertaining. By no means was it an Appalling film. When you are on top this is what you get.

Yes I've seen the Avengers. That is what I viewed it as really, though it was (way) better than Transformers.

Anyone involved with Dark Knight Rises should only be concerned with why Dark Knight Rises was a pile of shit.

Ultimately, both movies were awful.

Yep, it was pretty shit.

Yeah, when I watched this movie I thought it was overall just a boring experience. I must say though that I am in no way connected to the Marvel universe (only seen a few things from the Hulk), so that might play a large role.

The Black Widow was a great plus though.

If my competitor's film was more successful both financially and critically, I'd be envious too.

If that's what he really said I would have just said "get over yourself" during the interview. Some people need a stern reality check when they let their hubris get in the way.

I liked TDKR, but the pretentious people are starting to make me dislike it

The Avengers is a big, brainless popcorn movie. Not much in the way of a theme or character development or story let alone cinematography, but lots of stuff blowing up real good.

So I don't necessarily disagree with him. Though it's not like The Avengers even tries to be anything more than that. It's a film for 12-year-old boys and/or the 12-year-old boy that never grows up in men.

That said TDKR is the weakest of the three Nolan Batman films. I think they had to shoe-horn in the plot device of Bane breaking Batman's back, which grinds the movie to a halt for 3 months or whatever and that just didn't work well IMO. But I think they ended it well and brought the entire trilogy to a relatively satisfying halt.
