Forums - Sales Discussion - Japan sales week 41- Famitsu and M-create ( October 8-14)

Bravely did very well, and it helps the burn from Project x Zone not doing so well. I love crossover games and wanted it to do more.

Toki to Towa didn't flop completely. Should outdo Cross Edge and The Last Rebellion at least.

My last entry to the thread has caused me to miss some funny discussions.

01./00. [3DS] Bravely Default: Flying Fairy (Square Enix) {2012.10.11} (¥6.090) - 144.909 /

03./00. [3DS] Project X Zone (Bandai Namco Games) {2012.10.11} (¥6.280) - 93.756 / NEW

Good numbers for both, I hoping some strong legs for both. Localization seems more likely now (at least for BD:FF)

Very nice opening for Bravely Default. Localisation should be a no brainer, unless SE has gone insane. In other words, I still have my doubts. :/
I really want PXZ... *sob sob*

If 144K triggered localization, we should be playing Type-0 by now. Good sales don't always mean localization.

I think PSP's situation in the west had a lot to do with that though.

Edit:

And since we got Theatrhythm we should get this one.

Theatrhythm bombed, especially in the west.

http://www.siliconera.com/2012/02/24/theatrhythm-final-fantasy-sold-through-90-of-its-shipment/ - 90% - thing was sold out.

http://garaph.info/softwareindividual.php//gid/5418 - 140k total sales

And sold around 70-80k in the US alone according to creamsugar in July NPD in neogaf thread.

You and I have a very different notion of bomb. Hatsune Miku bombed too right? Since it only sold 190k in japan and nothing in the west... and it's 20 times more expensive to make. (answer: it didn't)

Plus the 12 packs of DLC (and counting) and

Hazama on how Theatrhythm Final Fantasy was seeing sell-outs in Japan…

“As a producer, I felt sorry for fans who were waiting for the game because it was sold out. Some people had, in a worst case scenario, had to wait two weeks so the only feeling I felt was sorry.”

Hazama on what series he would want to work with for another Theatrhythm game…

“[Laughs.] Personally, I hope this will be come a series, but Theatrhythm Hitman will probably be really far off. There are many series that I would want to work on for Theatrhythm. Dragon Quest has a lot of music and Kingdom Hearts would be wonderful to do if it’s possible. I’m not to familiar with the Eidos collection, but Tomb Raider has a long history so it must have a great collection of songs. That might be fun.”

Hatsune Miku Project Diva F is well over 200k with the digital sales and it was released just one month ago, Theatrhym came out in March. Many people got a Vita just for this game even in Europe where it costs a lot to import (please refer to my article). Needless to say, PSVita has a much narrower install base than 3DS in Japan, so I think it's safe to assume that Project Diva F is a bigger success than Theatrhym. That said, if SquareEnix is satisfied with the current sales, then I was wrong (but their target is curiously low).

Edit : can't wait for Tombraiderythm XD

Media Create:

[PSV] Hatsune Miku: Project Diva f # (Sega) {2012.08.30} (¥7.329) - 159.592 / NEW <74,63%

Dengeki:

[3DS] Theatrhythm Final Fantasy (Square Enix) - 69,863 / 69,863 [ST: ~90% => 78,000]

First shipment for Hatsune Miku ~214k. Last ltd Known:

Famitsu:

[PSV] Hatsune Miku: Project Diva f # (Sega) {2012.08.30} (¥7.329) - 185.353

Media Create:

[PSV] Hatsune Miku: Project Diva f # (Sega) {2012.08.30} (¥7.329) - 186.059

Not even sold its first shipment. Now we know the game that bombed and the game that succeed.

I fail to see how it contradicts what I said. Project Diva was overshipped, so it sold less than Sega expected. Theatrhythm was undershipped, so it sold more than SE expected. It's all relative to the management decision of the first shipping. It doesn't change the fact that in absolute terms, Project Diva f beats Theatrhythm despite a shorter presence on the market.

From Neogaf

I just saw this, and it's a disaster! (vita numbers and your formatting :D)

Unless Vita can find a 600k seller soon it's going to be extra bad, since Seaman sales surge is "coming" right after those 43 weeks. In the end, this is very telling.

One, it shows Vita wouldn't be faring that bad if it had great/major software. Two, the dreamcast died with a dream library.

Level 5 annouced Inazuma Eleven port/remake of the first 3 games is delayed. Same day now as Layton vs Ace Attorney on november 29th.

I'm very glad of the support Level 5 is giving 3DS but they must be crazy. There's simply 4 (5 if you count both versions) games coming out... in the last two months of the year. That can't be good business. Nintendo, that is Nintendo, has 3!

Inazuma Eleven 3DS Port Delayed So Level-5 Can Verify The Game’s Quality

By Spencer . October 17, 2012 . 9:00pm

Level-5 pushed Inazuma Eleven: The Legend of Endou Mamoru back two weeks. The game, which is really a compilation of six Inazuma Eleven games for Nintendo DS, will be available in Japan on November 29.

Level-5 apologized to fans and said they need the extra time to verify the quality of the game for all users.

Wow, they couldn't make it uglier if they tried.

It's like they're saying... "you thought you were so cool waiting huh, smart guy. Here's the cover you'll be looking for your whole life at once and then never again."

Even without looking, I'd be bothered if a boxart featuring a McDonalds BEST PRICE tag is with my other boxes.

It most certainly did not.

The production values for a title like theat and FF type zero are completely different.

Maybe in europe it bombed, but US was ok and in Japan it was a sucess. Overall a sucess though. 300k for music that was already composed and some chibi characters animated. Sounds like profit to me.

Those localization costs are always fishy... they translate Dishonored, a game probably packed with dialogue, voices, lore, terms, etc, in japanese to sell less than 10k copies.
But some companies can't translate in english simpler games for more sales than that, for sure? Always strange.

Anyway, still very happy for BD debut. Really nice start.

good point regarding localization.

I love My Wii U, and the potential it brings to gaming.

- 85.68% sellthrough for Bravely Default
- 57.55% sellthrough for Project X Zone

Not so nice for Project X-Zone
And fantastic for Bravely Default - hopefully this "sell out" is solved.
