1) As is our right as those on top of the food chain. Are lions immoral for eating deer? Animals don't really show independent thought or reason. They are not the same as people, and they are not entitled to the human rights of freedom and safety from harm.

That's actually not true in atleast some cases... to be a huge downer... but in general when judging consiousness and independent thought, generally there is a thing known as the "mirror test".

Basically whether or not an animal can distinguish that it's reflection is actually itself and not something different.  This requires at least some higher reasoning skills.

Generally they mark paint on an animals face... and if they see it and clean it after they look in the mirror, they are consious and capable of complicated thought.  Generally it's thought a number of animals who can't do this test now, will be able to do so in the future when given a more accurate test.

As for what it means now?   Avoid pork.  Pigs are apparently really quite smart.  They pass the test and are apparently smarter then young children.

Does it not have the same outcome for both of them with animals dying?

2.) Why not kill off all the animals who eat meat to save the vegetearing animals?

Because that would lead to other animals overpopulating and messing up the environment!

3.) How do you not know that but fore there use as food for people chickens, cows and pigs would have gone extict or will go extinct in the future?

Is it not better to live a short life and be made food rather than to have been wiped out centuries age?

4.) While the living conditions of animals need to be improved there is no evidence that they experience emotions (that cant be explained by instincts) or desire a future which are essential when determining the worth of a creatures life to itself.

PS: As far as science goes in the next couple of decades we will be able to produce meat without any awarness or intelligence at all. In my opinion this is bad as then the animals wont even have a short life to live as they will no longer be bred at all. There are billions of pigs in the world and barely any Polar bears. Which one do we eat again?

1.) Because humans should have a higher level of consideration for other animals. Our morality shouldn't be compared to other animals.

2.) Same as above

3.) Who knows? It's an hypothetical. How could anyone answer that question?

4.) What kind of emotions? Fear? Curiosity? These are found in farmed mammals

I never understood why are vegetarians and vegans so fucking preachy about their food choice..

In my opinion, eating animals is no less immoral than exhaling, which emits carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, the source of global warming.

As humans we have the ability to have empathy for each other and animals. However, I think the immorality assigned to killing animals is due to the disconnect we have with reality. Almost noone in North America has actually gone through the process of killing an animal and eating it. I have only caught fish to eat, but not a chicken or cow. The unfamiliarity with the process makes it disturbing, but I know that's the case.

Another way of thinking about it is through evolution. If the primary goal of evolution is for genes to survive, animals such as cows and chickens evolved as livestock for humans for their genes to survive. In a way farming animals will preserve their genes as long as humans survive. So it's immoral not to support eating meat.

For the most part, cows and chickens were bred to be dumb, tasty and "anti-social" and are generally treated very well before they are slaughtered ...

Animals like dogs, cats and horses were bred to be working animals and tend to be smarter and more social; and the working relationship between humans and these animals has created an emotional bond that makes it difficult to imagine eating them.

In my opinion (just about) the only animal that we eat that seems a little odd is pigs because they're an animals that is very smart and social.

More or less the scienfitic view on it... as mentioned earlier about the mirror test.

Though a lot of people don't eat cows or chicken's just to err on the side of caution since consiousness testing doesn't have perfect methods for all animals.

You know that is not what I am saying. So should we just let animals live and take over the planet? How far should we over step our bounds as humans?

Huh? I don't understand your question.

All I'm saying is if something is found in nature, that doesn't necessarily mean it's okay for Humans to do the same thing.

Why is it ok for animals to do the natural thing and eat meat but not humans?
Because its not natural for us and wildlife animals have a chance we just have our animal "prisons" and kill the ones we want. They have no fair chance to survive at all.

SO its ok to eat animals if you give them a shot at getting away? That doesnt make much sense now does it.

Does it not have the same outcome for both of them with animals dying?
No see above. Plus wildlife animals kill other animals because they are hungry. We do it because of profit and because we are bored and want to eat. We kill more than we "need" to.  Plus tons of meat are wasted because it is thrown away after reaching its expiration date.

We eat animals because were hungry and it taste good. And now its wrong to make money from providing people with meat is it? Do you think animals go Hmm i hope that the people who butcher me are not making a profit because that would be wrong. We do everything in our society for a profit cause thats how the economy works you moron.

Why not kill off all the animals who eat meat to save the vegetearing animals?
Because this would manipulate the natural food chain etc. And mess up the environment. BTW This argument makes not sense at all.

Would it not save all the animals from being eaten by others? Are we not also manipulating the food chain by not eating meat we desire to because of supposed ethical reasons?

Because that would lead to other animals overpopulating and messing up the environment!
Guess what! We are animals too and we are overpopulated and are #1 at messing up the environment. So lets kill 95% of all people okay? Sorry but NONSENSE again.

Yes the difference being people have emotions as well as hopes and dreams that make killing them slightly different to other living beings. Plus human overpopulation IS a problem that we have to deal with at some point or another. And how is it nonsense saying the animals that eat vegetables would become overpopulated? THEY WOULD if they suddenly lost their natural predators

How do you not know that but fore there use as food for people chickens, cows and pigs would have gone extict or will go extinct in the future? If we never removed them from their natural habitat and if we never destroyed that habitat there would be a big chance of wild chickens running around etc. BTW there is still wild chickens on this planet noone bothers to find them.

Yes in certain numbers. Release the chickens in captivity and watch them get masacred by their natual predators or overpopulate and need to be culled. And yes we do take up alot of space but both the chickens and thier predators suffer from this.

Is it not better to live a short life and be made food rather than to have been wiped out centuries age?
No why would it be better? Is it better to kill 1 year old babies than to maturbate? of course not.

No but a 1 year old lamb with not emotions and hopes might apreciate the short life.

While the living conditions of animals need to be improved there is no evidence that they experience emotions (that cant be explained by instincts) or desire a future which are essential when determining the worth of a creatures life to itself. There is prove they show emotions so please educate yourself before saying something like that. There was a myth that fish doesnt have emotions  but even this is now proven false!  And btw what do emotions have to do with anything? Why not its okay to kill everything that cant say PLEASE DONT! Its just some kind of excuse to keep killing animals.

They also cant apreciate life in any meaningfull way making their existence pointless. The evidence supporting animal emotions is garbage compiled by people who desperately want to prove animals can feel hapiness. Sadly they cant and people just have to accept this and move on with their lives. Without happiness life is not worth living but animals serve a purpose to provide food for people and other animals.

Even tho meat is unnecessary for humans to survive. Lab meat is a good idea becaue it wastes less ressources in producing the meat. (you dont waste ressources to create eyes teeth noone wants to eat.
And doestn require anyone to kill animals.

We "created" those billions of pigs thats why they are there.

Exactly we created thoose pigs because they served a purpose as food. Without us eating them they may well number in the hundereds or be extinct.

But that's just it isnt it. The biggest part of what makes eating animals OK but not humans is our morality. Are Animals without any concept of good or bad worth anything more that their meat? How can we claim to hold ourselves to a higher standard to thoose who have none nor ever will? Will a cow lion ever feel sadness for eating a Zebra?

I dont belive that their is evidence to support the argument that animals have emotions at all or that releasing farm animals into the wild would be good for us or the animals as they may not survice in todays enviroment after being bred for food for so long.
