In my opinion, eating animals is no less immoral than exhaling, which emits carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, the source of global warming.

As humans we have the ability to have empathy for each other and animals. However, I think the immorality assigned to killing animals is due to the disconnect we have with reality. Almost noone in North America has actually gone through the process of killing an animal and eating it. I have only caught fish to eat, but not a chicken or cow. The unfamiliarity with the process makes it disturbing, but I know that's the case.

Another way of thinking about it is through evolution. If the primary goal of evolution is for genes to survive, animals such as cows and chickens evolved as livestock for humans for their genes to survive. In a way farming animals will preserve their genes as long as humans survive. So it's immoral not to support eating meat.
