Forums - Sales - PS VITA passes 1 million in Japan, Sony didn't even have to try.

These holidays will be brutal to Vita in japan!

But since it has all that extra fat (good job, Sony!) it'll be ok!

About time! Now, most probably, due to the spotlight being on PS3 Slim Slim now, and most probably on Wii U later, Sony will prefer to delay the price cut and sacrifice total sales for higher profit margin, but next Spring PSV needs it.

About Monster Hunter: PSP received its first one when its user base in Japan was ~2.2M.

Which was afte 50 weeks or so.  The vita has already been out 42 weeks.

User base should be more important for Capcom, but I agree that current sluggish HW sales most probably will help making Capcom wait for a HW user base larger than 2.2M. For example they could ANNOUNCE it when user base will be at least 2.5M or 3M in Japan, but while they surely already established an approximate minimum desired user base, the precise one will be determined from their desired release season.
Moreover, a port will require a lower mnimum user base to be approved, while an exclusive title (or even a multiplat, but new one) will require a larger one.

"Didn't even have to try"? It's taken forever.

PSVita has taken 41 weeks to make this milestone.

DS took less than 4 weeks
3DS took 12 weeks
PSP took about 14 weeks.

PSP - 14

Vita - 41

14 -----> 41

41 -----> 14

Oh! :O

1 million? really? It sells less then 20k per week so it should take about 1 more to sell another million. At this rate it should take about 20 years to make the same numbers as the PSP did.

Btw. if the PSP was a flop, how do you call the Vita then?

You're missing the sarcasm there.

PSP wasn't a flop.  It did decent against a Nintendo hand held.  Although a lot of people assumed it was going to beat the DS due to being superior in graphics.  Proves the point that the most powerful system never wins the most in sales.

Well mostly the "best" device is the most expensive one. I remember when the PSP came out the first thing I thought is "not gonna pay 250€ for a Gameboy". And same goes for the Vita.

About 999,997 more than I thought were sold in Japan.

Jokes.

I'm not too worried about the Vita's future.

Whats the point in that second sentence in the title?

There is only one sentence in the title.
