Forums - Sales - I figured out why Xbox 360 owners buy more games than PS3 owners.

Click the option that best describes you:

I agree. 43 56.58%

I also agree. 8 10.53%

Not sure, but if I must c... 24 31.58%

Total:75

So from that logic, GameCube gamers were the most satisfied gamers of the previous generation, right?

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

I know this i a joke thread but for some reason I just really want ot take it seriously. So here is my serious response to the OP.
If Xbox owners weren't satisfied with the games on the platform then they wouldn't keep buying more games. When the point of constant disatifaction hits you stop supporting the platform.

PS3 gamers buy more used games, because their console is soo asspensive they can't afford new. Because the VGC tie ratio doesn't take account of the used game market the tie ratio is low.

PS3 owners are used to, and want "free" stuff, whereas Xbox 360 owners love to throw money at any coporation who puts content on their console, as well as throwing money at theior console (XBLG). So PSN+ subscribers basically never need to buy a retail game ever because they get all their gaming satisfaction through DL (full retail) games off PSN for "free". PSN sales of full retail games are also not recorded in the tie ratio, and because there are millions of PSN+ subscribers that's millions of full retail games being DL'd ever month that are not recorded as sales.

Hence the true tie ratio, taking ito account used games and PSN+ DL's may be fairly even.

Highly doubt that since X-Box live has more full retail games online that are available for purchase.  Pretty much every retail game will end up for download on X-Box live eventually.  Not to mention that their are also more XBL arcade and indie games then other games that are not full retail on the PSN.  On top of that X-Box live has also more movies, tv shows and other forms of entertainment then the PSN.  Also PSN+ games should never enter any equation since they are free that's like me adding pirated games to the 360's picture if they would be included the 360 would crush the PS3 even more when it comes to moving software.

PSN+ games are not free, like all Xbox fans like to point out. To get a "free" game off PSN+ you have to have a paid up sub for PSN+, therefore you are paying for the game. Therefore PSN+ "no extra cost" games are definitely counted as sales.

Also XBLA/PSN games aren't counted in this so there's no point in bringing it up, it's only the full retail games that are also available on XBL/PSN that can factored in to a tie ratio discussion.

Similarly, what's movies, TV shows and other stuff got to do with this topic? We're not debating whether XBL or PSN are better services, we are talking about tie ratio.

Fact is, millions of PSN+ accounts with different "no extra charge" DL full retail games every month affects the full retail game tie ratio massively. If I had a PSN+ account I'd have DL'd at least 5 or 6 full retail games by now, which is why I don't have PSN+. I'd be playing video games far too much and not doing enough of what I should be doing.

Well like I said before their are more full retail games available on X-Box live.  Eventually pretty much every retail game will be available on X-Box Live.  So if they where to be included into the equation the gap between the two ratios would be even higher in favor of the 360.  Also PSN+ plus full games couldn't be brought into the equation because you only truely own them if you keep your PSN+ account once it runs out the games become unplayable.

Pretty much, boxed retail stats are now fairly irrelevant with the many options for downloaded purchases. And by extension, vgcharts is also irrelevant. :D

I have pondered this quite often as well, your theory might be true but I don't think it's the whole reason.

Think about the PS3 sales, 8.5m of them are in Japan and considering the Japanese don't buy a whole lot of western games the userbase for western games is much lower than the 360 resulting in lower sales.

Second of all due to the PS3's very good exclusive library many gamers use it as their second console just for those exclusives, whilst there main gaming platform is PC or Xbox.

i give this thread a 9.7/10.

well done.

Vgchartz is still relevant since most major titles are still available in a physical format and their is still a majority of gamers that prefer to own a physicial copy over a digital copy.  Over time it is definetly becoming less relevant since downloadable games gain in popularity.

isnt it obvious by now that the 360 is number one in america by a big margian and with nearly every other commerical product americans spend more they every other country and in some cases more they everyone else combined.

I've read a lot of posts from you Jay, and they all tend to be pretty sound and hard to argue with. This theory of yours is crap though.

I was about to propose my own theory to why the Xbox 360 has a higher attach rate, but first I must ask a relevant question. Does your table represent only retail games, or retail and digital purchases together?
