1. Did anyone ask for such changes? No. The battle system and structure were universially acclaimed by fans and critics. Not one complain was made about them.

2. It's just cool to have your partners and their wide range of abilities. Partners are also about the dialogue and relationship with them. I don't want some lame generic star.

3. There's also the "Let the game bomb by Paper Mario standards and show Nintendo they can't give us their crap experiments as games".

Yup, cause all changes are because people asked for them. Especially the real nice ones, those that shocks for the good. Plus, like I explained, it hasn't changed much.

You sound like the only way to have a story and dialogue is with partners... Finish Kooper scenario 2 hours into the game and what relationship and dialogue he has after that? Mario and Luigi games don't have partners also - great story and great relationship with NPCs. There will be a great story, great relationship with NPCs and great dialogue, at least until proved wrong (which you can't right now)

But keep hatin on the internet, maybe you'll affect 2 (maybe even 3, wow!) buyers and "bomb" the game. Sigh... just skip the "experiment" if it offends you that much. I think it's lame to complain about released games you played (as someone always likes them so best action, imo is just to let it go), but complaining about unreleased ones, is extra lame

You can not just keep adding stuff on top of existing games. Thats essentially what CoD is doing. Sometimes you have to try a different approach and reorganize the formula. People here a way to quick to judge the game. That guy at the E3 said he played one of the older games religiously and I trust him. At least wait for the reviews, seriously. If the game really turns out to be bad then, you have my permission to rub it into Vics face all you want.

Ongoing bet with think-man: He wins if MH4 releases in any shape or form on PSV in 2013, I win if it doesn't.

I think the game will turn out well, but...it's not going to come close to TTYD for a few reasons.

1. No partners. Has there even been a turn based RPG before without party members?

:P

1. No partners. Has there even been a turn based RPG before without party members? I can't think of a single one. I think the sticker system might make partners essentially "useless" but I still don't like it.

2. Non-cohesive overworld. I don't think we know enough to know how the world will work, exactly, but it seems like a step back. Going from one cohesive world to one that's split? I liked how in TTYD you would get new powers and go back to old areas and access new areas. That might still be present, but I liked the one connected world better.

3. The generic areas. Grass area, ice area, fire area, etc. Boring elemental areas. This game doesn't seem like it has any unique areas like in TTYD like the mafia/thug-infested town of Rogueport, the Boggly forest, the Glitz Pit, Twilight Town, the haunted island, the train, etc. Now, they might not be that bad. The desert are has a cool Yoshi sphinx and a Shy Guy mariachi band. But I still don't the areas are as cool.

The sticker system/no leveling up I'm open about because it seems like there'll be good incentives regardless, and previews say battles are good. However, I still would've liked them to incorporate the sticker system with EXP and partners. Partners would still do their thing, and maybe Mario would only be limited to stickers? Money is supposed to be a big factor for stickers and grinding for EXP and money seems better than no EXP at all...

Also, this is kind of a different issue, but I doubt the soundtrack will be as good as TTYD. TTYD had such an awesome soundtrack; the best of any Mario game. SMG doesn't even compare IMO. Rawk Hawk battle theme, Rogueport theme, Shadow Queen battle themes, Doopliss theme, dragon battle theme, menu theme, X-Naut Fortress, Crump' battle theme, Bowser + Kammy's battle theme, Glitz Pit theme, etc. etc. But this isn't really a SS-only problem. TTYD just set a super high standard lol.

Great post.

So hyped for this game. I'm not worried about how this game will turn out compared to other Paper Mario games, it'll still be good.

I loved Super Paper Mario and its changes (one of my most played Wii games). It's partners were just pixels that only talked once and that's it! However, the game was still funny and enjoyable.

The battle system seems really deep and I like how they are making this game with a more diverse paper approach than the previous games (like how the coins are made of cardboard). But, this is just my opinion. Haters gonna hate, I don't care.

You got partners? We got a giant goat!

Btw... from the latest batch of details:

- Emphasis on backtracking/exploration
- You may not be able to access one path right away until you find whatever you need in a later level
- There will be another path in the level that you can take to exit
- Levels that haven’t been fully explored will be marked

With the locations, I agree, they seem way less varied than TTYD and Super Paper Mario. I think a back to basics is good (since Paper Mario (the 64) is still my favorite RPG ever) but maybe they can innovate more in later levels

This just proves that you are blindly defending the game. Are you really going to defend some generic areas instead of the mindblowing areas found in TTYD?

Like I said, TTYD is a fantastic game, but my least favorite Paper Mario, with the first being my favorite. But I don't attack one game to make the other better. BTW, even more mind-blowing were the areas in Super Paper Mario, I don't see you complimenting it.

This paper Mario features a whole different graphic style. It's cool to see how mushroom kingdom looks in cardbox, instead of going to fluorescent forest right in the beggining. Look at the edges of the hill (right in the middle), that cardbox finish is beautiful. It's good to rediscover Mario standards again through a different lens.

Maybe they can get wacko in later levels, maybe not. Either way it's fine.

One of the biggest weapons that this game have to "get" me is collectables and secrets.
Secrets apparently are everywhere and collectibles stickers too (there's shiny and gold versions of stickers too)

Really hope for a "Library" thing tracking them.

In the GameXPlain video, they mention a museum where you can donate stickers (a la Animal Crossing). They mentioned like 10 or 20 hallways and around 10 placements in each hallway, so expect like 100 or 200 different stickers!
