Forums - Gaming - Sony Says They’re In The Perfect Position To Claim Those That Won’t Buy Wii U

I don't understand where all this Nintendo confidence came from. Maybe it's because I'm 33. I witnessed a ten year gap (1996-2006) where Nintendo's home consoles were utterly crushed and mocked relentlessly. Maybe it's because most of the posters online now were children then and so, they think that Nintendo has always been top dog. That they were always the gold standard. But anyone old enough can remember the days of the Gamecube and it's failures. Even the N64, a machine with truly classic games, was crushed by the PS1 in it's day and considered "too kiddy" for gamers at the time. Just look at the sales figures between the two.

I am a Nintendo fan at heart. I grew up with them, but I don't think their brand matters as much as a lot of you younger people think. If it did, the N64 and Gamecube wouldn't have gotten beaten so badly. The Wii-U is going to have to prove itself on the battle field. Just because it's a Nintendo console, doesn't mean squat.

The N64 was considered the most hardcore of hardcore next to the Dreamcast. The Gamecube didn't fell either. It made much profit and is home to the game that holds the sixth gen record for hgher polpygon count.

Nintendo only slipped in the N64 and GC eras beause of their focus on power. They learned from that mistake, but Sony has not.

The weakest console has always won the gen since forever. The PSX you quoted and the PS2 are proof of that.

What? Please tell me you're joking.

Your profile says you're 27. I am 28, so no doubt we were in our highschool years the same time.

You know full well everyone was on about Kingdom Hearts, Final Fantasy, Twisted Metal, Cool Boarders, Gran Turismo, you name it. Not Mario Kart 64, Mario 64 and Goldeneye. Yeah, those games were fun, but that isn't where the far majority of gamers were, especially the "hardcore" seeing as how those same people went to PS2 and then eventually Xbox360 and PS3.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Got a retro room? Post it here!

Just look up eBay. Look at where the sales are going to.

Ocarina of Time goes for $30. Smash goes for the same. Goldeneye nets you $10 if you're lucky,

You know where the demand is for those games? You know where those ones that sell for $50-$100 are from?

Playstation 1.

Only the hardcore pay me $50 for a black labeled Xenogears and $80 for my copy of Valkyrie Profile and Lunar SSSC.

Last is a nice position.

Indeed. Some people seem to love it.

I love it. Keeps the ego in check. :)

And the pockets empty...

No, pockets are fine. Enough for the needs and some desires. Even the kings die with lingering desires. We are just everyday people.

I'm not talking about your pockets. I'm on topic.

I am too. Sony is doing fine as far gaming department is conserned.

Sure...

Sony managing director of PlayStation UK, Fergal Gara thinks that the company is in the perfect position to nab those consumers who won’t buy Wii U on launch day. Gara admits that the original Wii was a huge breakthrough moment for Nintendo, but he feels that the new slim PlayStation 3 combined with Wonderbook will be the killer combination this Christmas.

“If you look at the upcoming Christmas market, the Wii will be selling in very low volumes – it’s on its way out – and the Wii U will arrive, but it will bring in a relatively small number of early adopter consumers.”

“We see ourselves well positioned for the casual market who won’t buy Wii U on day one. We’ve got a wow moment, we feel. I remember when people picked up the Wii controller for the first time, that was a big moment, it was a casual market breakthrough, but we thing we’ve got a casual market breakthrough as well with Wonderbook and the lowest priced PS3 yet.”

It's like i the movies where a guy will explain a bunch of horrible things all colliding against them at the same moment and then jokes.. "so we've got them right where we want them"

Sony is in the perfect position to get the gamers this xmas, the ps3 slim is a decent price and MS still hasn't had any decent showings other then halo

What dimension does this occur in?

He said gamers, not casuals.

Exactly.

Wow, this is where I leave. lol Sonys marketing and gaming is primarily devoted to the core gamer, anything casual is half assed.

I suppose that is what they choose to call it these days.

Look at the commercials they had for the move and tribute to gamers commercial. Yeah...Sony is for the core, period.

No, they are not. That is just a front put up to make them look more appealing to certain types of consumers. Its a marketing facade.

What core is has been redefined  this gen from what it actually meant. I call this the pseudo-core.

I would go into detail but speaking ill of Sony or its userbase is an unlisted bannable offense.
