I thought this game was already out in Japan? Or am I thinking of Operation Darkness.

Either way we knew about this 2-3 months ago Leo-J it's been my most anticipated PS3 game since then.

MGS 1-3 all sold 800k+ in Japan, not including Substance, Subsistence, etc. How is that not big?

It may not be FF big or anything, but it's still pretty big.

Gran Turismo 4 sold (approximately) 125% as much as Gran Turismo 4: Prologue when it was released on the PS2, and it looks like Gran Turismo 5: Prologue will sell between 25% and 40% as well as Gran Turismo 4: Prologue, what is the likelyhood that Gran Turismo 5 will sell noticeably worse than Gran Turismo 4?

On its own it might be a difficult question to answer, but when you add the poor performance of Virtual Fighter 5, Everybody Loves Golf, Dynasty Warriors 6, and several other games in Japan it does meant that you will likely see lost sales.

They didn't (check out the game database). They sold a fair share of units, but MGS is certainly not a series which can save a console in Japan.

I only saw about half of that video before I decided I didn't want to wait for it to finish loading, but it looked cool. The art style was interesting, perhaps I'll keep an eye on that game.

I did check out th game database. Out of the 3, MGS sold the least, at 798k units.

Edit: I meant 780k units. MGS 2 and 3 sold 850k and 860k respectively.

It is number 26 on the list of PS2 games in Japan, and games that outsold it (Dynasty Warriors, Everybody's Golf, Gran Turismo 4: Prologue, and Pro Evolution Soccer) have already been released and sold dramatically worse than people expected.

Sorry, was misreading the axis. In any case, my point still stands. MGS doesn't sell great in Japan (not even on the PS/PS2).
