PlayStation eyes 'perfect opportunity' to take lead at Christmas

UK boss Gara thinks Nintendo's Wii U transition opens space for PS3 casual push

The managing director of PlayStation UK, Fergal Gara, has said the business is set to embark on a "casual audience breakthrough" with both the new PS3 and the JK Rowling-backed Wonderbook project.

Gara told CVG that the casual market is "hugely important" for the PS3 business, and believes that the transition from Wii to Wii U has opened an opportunity to steal Nintendo's thunder.

"If you look at the upcoming Christmas market, the Wii will be selling in very low volumes - it's on its way out - and the Wii U will arrive, but it will bring in a relatively small number of early adopter consumers," he said.

Thoughts? I personally think that's 70% crazy talk and 30% by luck. Is it just SONY PR strikes again? or do you guys think there is an actual possibility that the PS3 will swoop all them casual markets?

the wii-u is still a perfectly functional wii 100% backwards compatible, there might be only 23 wiiu launch games but there are thousands of wii games it will play right out of the box, I think this UK boss of sony hasn't considered the wii-u's abilities.

Another Sony pr idiot. A whole new breed of them have emerged in the last few months, lead by ultimate corporate yes man, House.

Bit harsh.

PS One/2/p/3slim/Vita owner. I survived the Apocalyps3/Collaps3 and all I got was this lousy signature.

Xbox One: What are you doing Dave?

if he would be right, he forgot that xbox 360 would also profit from that then and would maybe take the lead at christmas.

Wasn't Sony saying, even as recently as E3 itself, that they are all about the core gamer and providing those core experiences?

I suppose they could try to focus heavily on both, but focusing hard in two areas will make the original focus less, due to the balancing of resources...

Could Sony be abandoning the hardcore?! THAT would be a hilarious sight to see!

Xbox360 sells the most on UK.

but they'll outsell the shit outta it!!!!!! yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa, as for wonderbook..... you need the pseye, the move, a ps3, the wonderbook, it's software and a hd tv to make it look like you are reading a book on a tv? doesn't anyone at sony know how much a copy of a harry potter book actually costs and how it isn't close to 3000euros? :D

it does not really look like reading a book on tv, it looks as if the book you read is not a book, as if that what you read would really happen. at least guys from german tv channels at gamescom testing it thought it was great, it could be very interesting for parents. and who needs to buy a tv for that? does not everyone have one? lol...and even if, it wouldn't be 3k^^

Yeah, I agree with him ...

Growing up, who didn't like getting hand-me-downs after their siblings were done with something. It was always a nice warm & fuzzy feeling, unlike getting something new that was specifically for you.
