I think the number of siblings you have in a generation is based on the quality of the mate and how many you kept alive from the previous generation, best I've gotten was a pack of 6 silk terriers.

Is there a way you can tell the quality of a mate? When I walk around at boss rank they are both available, first one I get too removes the other from the map.
I need to pay more attention to the details, I'm too busy watching the challenge timer. 30 kills in 10 years is hard when everything is spread thin in the area you're in.

You can tell the quality by the hearts above the prospective female.  If the hearts are black that's a "desparate female" which is the worst kind, pink hearts means a normal female, and if the pink hearts have sparkles then it's a prime female.  You have to check the hearts from far off because if you touch the female then your choice is made.

@Bristow: you don't see the parents die, but yeah you play as the next generation.

So what happens if, say, you're a dog, find another dog, hump her brains out and have a puppy, and then you die? Do you play as that puppy?

Yep, and his brother(s) follow you around. The parents stay at the nest.
You have to unlock a new nest for the new generation. (The generation after the first nest is available again to unlock)

Ah that's pretty cool then.

Just bought the game now by the way, leaving it to download overnight, I don't get it, I have 40MB internet, and everything downloads at 5mbps plus, except for my PS3... it downloads at like 150-200kbps... so I'll have to leave my PS3 on idling for some hours lol.

Also one last question (I think) then I'm off to bed (4:30am here and such...)

How long (In real time) does a year last ingame, like just a few minutes or more?

Seems to be 1 minute per year.

...

Thanks, I figured out the black hearts were bad but had not noticed the difference between average and prime females yet. Looking for sparkles next.
(This game is creating some very weird statements taken out of context...)

Don't forget to set the ps3 to turn off after downloading so it installs it automatically. I'm not sure what they did with it, but installation took half an hour on my ps3.

That seems to go pretty quick then, and I've lied, I'm going to ask a few more questions, THEN go to bed!

How long does a generation last on average?

Over time, does your animal become weaker with age, or isn't this a factor?

What's the longest you've lasted, and do you think you can last even longer than that?

I haven't seen any adverse old age effects yet. The bonusses and extra lifes you get from mating make it too good to resist not to do it.
My best is only 34 years so far. The scoreboard has people lasting 998 years. (It's been out a long time already in Japan) You can save and quit after unlocking a nest, before mating. (You lose that save after resuming, there is no going back)

Well the tutorial said your animal will die of old age after 15 years so you have to be faster than that, it's all dependent on you.  You could be really quick about it if you wanted.

I haven't noticed the generation getting weaker with age, but I haven't let them get that close to the 15 year limit so they might since they definitely start a generation smaller and slower and grow up over time.

longest was 62 years, and you could definitely go longer, it's just difficult because of the randomness of survival mode.  More than likely you'll be down and out at some point because you ran into a huge area swamped with tigers, or you have no luck finding food fast enough, or you get poisoned by a toxic environment.  Lots of ways to die.

... How do I go about setting that up? Didn't even know it had that feature, and I've had a PS3 since 2007!

Choose turn off system from the xmb (far left). If the ps3 is downloading something it will give you the option to shut down after the download is complete. It will automatically install whatever it downloads when you do that.
Very useful when lining up a bunch of demos to try the next day.

... Why did I not know this?! I just turn my PS3 off by holding the button on the controller and turning it off that way, lol.

And thanks to both of you for answering my questions! Really appreciated! I might be able to get a couple of hours in before work tomorrow, atleast I hope so anyway, I'm doing a 10pm-6am night shift lol, thank god I take my 3DS and Vita with me, I can play Theatrhythm and Final Fantasy IX yay! (Since I usually get like a 2 hour gap to myself where there's no customers and such)

Does remote play work at your work? I have no idea how remote play works, no vita.

I made it to 42 years with a deer last night, new record. 3 years short from the trophy doh. The game had it out for me in the end, every zone I went to went toxic. I ran out of supplies, and heavy rain and fog were obscuring the radar. My siblings started dying one by one. I made a last ditch effort after claiming the territory to sprint with my mate to the nest while my life was dwindling due to 100% toxicity. No food available, just water which only takes 5 points off toxicity, barely enough to regenerate a bit of health. I might have made it if it wasn't for the hyena chasing me and getting slowed down by running into a subway car. So close.

It does seem you level up permanently. My Pomeranion has 11g under it and the stats now have an extra bigger red area around the blue area. I'll try the carnivores again tonight, plants are so scarce for herbivores.

I don't know, I'm not hooked yet. Although I only played the tutorial. Is there a chance I will get hooked?

Dirty cheap game either way, only around 10 Euros for Plus members.
