Is there a way you can tell the quality of a mate? When I walk around at boss rank they are both available, first one I get too removes the other from the map.
I need to pay more attention to the details, I'm too busy watching the challenge timer. 30 kills in 10 years is hard when everything is spread thin in the area you're in.

You can tell the quality by the hearts above the prospective female.  If the hearts are black that's a "desparate female" which is the worst kind, pink hearts means a normal female, and if the pink hearts have sparkles then it's a prime female.  You have to check the hearts from far off because if you touch the female then your choice is made.

@Bristow: you don't see the parents die, but yeah you play as the next generation.
