Forums - Gaming - Got a Galaxy SIII... recommend me some settings and apps

So I got a pretty good upgrade offer from T-mobile to upgrade my HTC HD7 (a windows 7 phone) to a Galaxy SIII. I was originally going to wait for the Nokia Lumia 920 but the deal was too good to pass up and my HTC HD7 was really starting to show it's age (downloading anything was becoming impossible for some reason). I know I'm going to miss out on some really good stuff by not waiting for the Lumia 920 but I figured since I'll be getting the Microsoft Surface I'll be just fine.

Honestly I think the Android OS (at least on this phone....can't speak for the others) is significantly better than the Windows 7 phone. It's so much more colorful, crisp and vibrant and I actually found it easier to get used to than the interface on the HTC. There are so many awesome and convenient options on this phone (the drag down menu is incredible). And the app store! It's so nice to have an app (or ten) for EVERYTHING. I've already downloaded 4.3 GB of apps (mostly awesome looking free games. Having 4g (which I've seen max out at 14 Mb down and 1.5 Mb up) is amazing as well and means I can actually do stuff basically wherever I want.

As for the phone itself it looks great and the anti-finger print screen is probably one of the best things I've seen on a phone (my old phone would get finger prints galore!)

The only things I think the Windows phone beat out the Galaxy SIII by are the texting (which is pretty much perfect on windows and garbage on the GSIII), the social aspect on the Windows phone is much better, more streamlined and easier to use, and the interface on the GSIII is actually prett laggy whereas it's smooth as butter on Windows (although I heard that may change with Jelly Bean).

Althogether I LOVE the Galaxy SIII (it's about the same of an upgrade as going from my old flip phone to the HTC!) and I'd like it if anyone could recommend me the best games, widgets and apps (paid and free).

Lol my favorite is angry birds space. Also hold both the menu button and power button for a sec and it takes a screenshot, no rooting needed unlike other android phones.

You should have trusted me from the beginning.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Got a retro room? Post it here!

Apparatus, I really liked this game... I usually just beat the levels through trial and error but each level has different ways to solve the puzzle.

Also, I enjoyed Game Dev Story

Great Little War Game is pretty decent. I like Advance Wars more but this was done with pretty good effort.

Continuity 2 is a pretty unique game.  Mainly a puzzle game with a slight platform influence.  Only 99 cents.  Other Noodlecake games like Super Stickman Golf (free) and Trainyard (99 cents) are good pick ups too.

If you like RPG type games you might like this game...  Star Traders RPG Elite.  I didn't get much of a chance to get too far into the game before my android phone broke (due to me abusing it) but it seems the developer put a lot of effort into the game.  He also updates it constantly with more ships, etc.  While I wasn't blown away by the game (due to lack of being able to play it fully) it seems like a decent amount of people gave it good reviews.  You could try his free versions of the game first to see.

Hopefully, you will enjoy at least one of those games.

Oh that's nice! EDIT: Wow I was just informed that I can do that by swiping my hand across the screen.

@Euphoria: Yeah you're right  Now get to suggesting!

BTW does anyone know if the Mass Effect Infiltrator game will work on my phone? It seems to be a tablet game.

Game Dev Story is awesome.

I thought you had left the site! Where were you?

I've been buuuuuuusy! I have full time work, college and a bunch of other stuff I had to get figured out and in my free times I was playing Borderlands 1 and 2.

I'm still really busy but now I have some time to come here again.

Look for any app you liked on WP, it'll be there.
Jump into all of Google's services as they are awesome and free.

Don't worry about any type of app killer as they all are pointless on unix based devices.
Google Wallet is awesome. I use it to buy stuff all the time.

I'd also check out the stock experience before jumping to 3rd party launchers/media etc. Its really improved a lot with Android 4.x. You should have Android 4.0.4 (ICS) already and Android 4.1 is coming out as I type this. Check daily for when its avail in your territory. Has a lot of great new things.

Combo Aldiko on phone + Calibre on PC for ebooks. Best combo ever, no need to by a whatever useless e book reader.
