the twilight hack was basically a game save for legend of zelda twilight princess, the save included a horse who's name was longer than 24 characters which is the max amount of memory that the wii has set aside for the characters name, as such as soon as you load up the save and talk to an npc who would talk about your horse the game freezes and crashes from a memory overflow, killing the wiis protection at the time of the crash to run unsigned code and as soon as the crash happens the homebrew channel can be installed and from there you can run any unsigned code from that channel, it was kinda the same as the 1x1png that causes the original psps to crash into a hackable state.

Edit !!! this doesn't work anymore btw!!! so do not be looking up how to twilight hack your wii, there was a fix to stop it happening but like someone here said it's not the method used to hack wiis now the bannerbomb way is far easier and doesn't envolve you buying a particular game.

It's pretty funny these things can happen.

Though I'm not interesting in doing stuff like this myself, I always like to read about hacks and especially glitches in games. I always find it intreguing how people find out about these things, some fanatic 'hackers' really have too much time on their hands.

Friends, when discussing Twilight Princess sales, you have heard it parrotted that the sales of TP were propelled by the discovery of the Twilight Hack.

You did a lot of very good research but I can say, full-stop, no questions asked, that I have never heard anyone use this as an explanation for Twilight Princess's high sales.

what? never heard of this before...

    R.I.P Mr Iwata :'(

yes, maybe a bit, but nothing relevant
the Tp hack was replaced by others fast, and, as someone posted earlier, many people that bought the game for the hack probably made it second hand

It took me time to find this, but you're right, I only heard it once here (CTRL+F "hack"). I guess the_dengle hounding me made me blow it up in my memory a little.

Yeah, never heard about this hack either.

It's pretty interesting though how much sales were boosted thanks to the release of Skyward Sword. Its heavy advertisements must have had a great impact.

(well, duh, I guess...)

The One. I was going to mention, the boosts since 2011 are due to the new packaging.

Two dates of importance:

The Player's Choice label was renamed Nintendo Selects on May 15, 2011.

Skyward Sword releasd on November 20, 2011.

But you could be right, I just wanted to point that out.

Oh wow didnt know the TP hack was the early version of the step towards modding a Wii lol.

Anyways, I bought the GCN version *_*, I'm one of the 1.59 million.

I have that one too, it's the one I played through, good old left handed link :D it's graphically an amazing feat for the GC to have pulled off so perfectly.

Nope :) Must be pretty hilarious. This far it was always Nintendo games on PS platforms, never saw the inverse yet =)
