Zelda is mostly for kids even though it had a very good battle/exploration system. The game is very approachable to adults...except for the GC version in style. Metroid is the only solitary first party title Nintendo has made that could pass for a near mature title and there you have it, Nintendos least popular title. The Uncharted franchise in five games will outsell the whole Metroid series because thats just it, when you take the light hearted everyone games out of  equation sales drop. F-Zero....yeah....anyway, the rest are third party.

Sony...couldn't market to casuals if the tried (and they have). Sony is confined to the hardcore. The hardcore mentality is even in their commercials. Look at the salute to gamers commercial and the more comical move commercials. You cannot attract people to the move, it forces you to actually use  your body. Outside of lacking the proper software the move tech was sound, and demanded you actually follow through with your movements instead of being coddled and halfassing movements on the Wii. Sony is trying to catch the eye of the casuals to increase sales, but they need to think of many things including a color scheme specifically for children with bright solid tones. Their characters have to have memorable faces much like Nintendo. Nintendo attracts casuals like moth to a flame. It did for me when I was a really, really young and I am sure it did for you as well.

I stopped reading after this. All you are going to do is label anything by Ninty as "kiddish" and anything by Sony as for "adults".

I know right? As if Little Big Planet and Sly Cooper cannot be considered "for kids" in any way.

It's not so cut and dry, we're talking about general trends. And nothing Nintendo does is balancing that trend. I'm not saying Nintendo should become Sony, I'm just saying they should take cues and integrate the best of Sony into their processes, that's all. A bit of video gaming "inter-racial" if you will :P

Well, Uncharted already has a clone coming, known as Star Wars 1313. Also, I think Sony has infected your brain, you need a dosage of Mario Kart once a week to get you to stop spooning over Sony so much. It worked for me.

I understand, but my statement was made to combat the idea that everything Sony does is for adults, and as such I'm actually defending Sony as a company that regularly makes games for varying segments. Something that, yes, Nintendo should do. And personally I believe that the best way for Nintendo to achieve greater variety in their game lineup is by forming partnerships with a wider variety (preferably talented) developers. Becauase Sony's success, in my opinion, comes from finding many different studios to work with that each possess their own unique game design philosophies.

According to who? This is the problem with posters on the internet, they think they have final say in everything and others are just suppose to believe what ever they say. Ninty should not be like a company that's in 3rd place and has virtually one high selling ip whick is in decline might I add.

Erm... given how terrible Sony is marketing wise, i wouldnt recommend anyone else to copy them. Also, if what i say doesnt make sense, you dont know what marketing is.

But, im nice so ill give you an example. Vita is a terribly marketed product. It failed to appeal to consumers.

In terms of marketing Nintendo is an example to follow, aswell as the marketing of their games.

Maybe you meant advertising? At wich point, you might have a point. I dont like the light-blue boxes of the WiiU.

Yes, mostly advertising. Do you think Nintendo could take a hint or two from the likes of Sony, and similarly companies like Coca Cola.

True Nintendo's image has dramatically improved with the Wii/DS-type advertising that is prestine and Apple-like. But it lacks the cultural influence of Apple, and also Sony and Coca Cola.

Nintendo has done a hell of alot to reenvigorate their brands, but there is more to learn. I believe Sony already has that expertize, it would be good for Nintendo to take notes. Of course, there's Sony, there's Coke, there's MacDonalds, all these companies that KNOW how to be culturally relevant.

Has Nintendo succeeded in this? I think not. They have everything to make 100M, but not what it takes to make 150M.

They definitly suceeded in reaching their target consumers for the most part. But, as a games company i believe they want to target the hardcore gamers aswell since those = more game sales. As far as those guy they are not aiming very well, though its alot better than it was with the Wii. I just think the Baby  blue boxes will scare the hardcores off the shelves. Its in line with the Wii audience and not with the hardcore or a middle ground.

They are. I am going to school for illustration and I know what characters are commercially created to attract children, adults, everyone, etc.

Yep that's precisely why Mario Kart sold more than GT or Wii Fit selling more than Uncharted. Hell the Wii selling more games than the PS3.
