Forums - Nintendo - "One of the weaknesses of the Wii U compared to PS3 and Xbox 360 is the CPU power'' -Warriors Orochi dev

But it's indeed based on Power7 architecture. On 16/09 straight from ΙΒΜ Watson Twitter account:

IBM Watson ‏@IBMWatson

@Xbicio @BoostFire The Wii U is a custom 45nm #power7 chip. Same SOI design in #ibmwatson

"So for games in the Warriors series, including Dynasty Warriors and Warriors Orochi, when you have a lot of enemies coming at you at once, the performance tends to be affected because of the CPU."

Wait, enemies coming at you in a Dynasty Warriors game? And attacking, right? In which universe?

the PS3 it has multiple CPUs and an SPU

WRONG!  End of story.

Seriously this one sentence makes the whole "interview" with the dev worthless.

The cell has 8 SPUs every SPE has one SPU inside...  the person has no idea what he is talking about....    sad sad

It might be a misstranslation and we all know what he ment, don't be so drastic with it.

But, is the WiiU CPU really less powerfull in raw numbers that the other two? I'm a bit surprised.

This sounds about right. Developers will have an easier time and produce a better game as they become more accustomed to making games on the platform. It's the same hurdle they had with the PS3 six years ago.

And snuggle the girls be they short or tall,
Then follow young Mat whenever he calls,
To dance with Jak o' the Shadows."

It doesn't matter that much now, but if it's true, then it might very well be a concern in the future.

The "next gen" doesn't start until we switch over to next gen software, which will probably happen for most 3rd party developers when the PS4/720 are released. Supposing the Wii U really does have a weak processor, and isn't able to build up a commanding installed base in the meantime, then it's possible we'll see a Wii situation where 3rd parties are skipping it. That would be kind of lame.

Of course, that's all supposition at the moment. Still, it is something to think about if you're on the fence about preordering it.

"With the Wii U being new hardware, we're still getting used to developing for it, so there are still a lot of things we don't know yet to bring out the most of the processing power. There's a lot that still needs to be explored in that area."

^Kinda says it all. In other words, he has no idea if it's weaker or not. He just doesn't know how to use it properly yet.

The whole rumour  and statement misinterpretation/mistranslation  shit is boring and annoying by now

So many people skipped school its unbelievable...

P.S.
If the WiiU cpu is slower (even tho it has watson technology inside) there is still the GPGPU that can handle CPU work to some extend. So dont worry.

of course -"With the Wii U being new hardware, we're still getting used to developing for it, so there are still a lot of things we don't know yet to bring out the most of the processing power. There's a lot that still needs to be explored in that area."- that's common sense, but i want to know all the secrets behind the wii u, if the cpu alone is weaker there's a reason for it, to save costs or power (energy) but then, is the GPGPU competent enough to efficiently ''help'' the CPU? it seems, that question -what a gpgpu is?- is a legit question i was expecting someonte to explain it at least briefly :( because i'm just curious.

Even if the clocks are slower, which I'm certain they will be, it's asinine to try to run your code without optimizing and expecting to run just as good.

The X360 and PS3 CPU's run at 3.2 Ghz. Modern chips from IBM do not have to run that high to achieve more overall power. I doubt even the PS4 and Next X will run at those clocks.

Remember the old AMD Athlon vs Intel Pentium 4 debates? It wasn't about how high you could clock your chip but what you did with each clock that counted. That still applies. It's about efficiency.

It's a GPU with extra instructions that enable it offload some of the tasks from the CPU.  It can handle physics, A.I. and some other tasks the CPU typically does....and do it a hell of a lot better because of the way GPUs are designed to do calcualtions.
