With that watts rating for the GPU sony can finally put that grill plate they always wanted to on top of the PS3.

You know what I realized? The new wattage of the GPUs are 130-160, they can get the GPU in that range. I couldn't find the wattage of the RSX but I think it's within that line, plus the CPU will be pretty small on the power consumption (I'm talking out of my ass here but I don't see it being higher than 90 watts). It'll be pushing the limits a bit but they can fit it in the PS3's case and power supply.

I don't want the new systems to be extreme power fucks. :(

That is true, but I just don't see why it has to be that way from day one. To me, it makes no sense to have only one form factor for a console. Like I said, when consoles were something people put away and pulled out to play, this was a great model. Now, however, consoles have become a solid fixtures under the TV.
I think for the first year there is no issue with a large sized box. Then like every other device now days, it could be shrunk on a yearly bases. But, instead of discontinuing the previous fourm factor, why not keep it available. DVD, and Blu-ray players come in all different forms, at many price points. I don't see why this could not be the same with consoles. Basically instead of the console being its own entity within Sony, Playstation would be a platform. Then you could have low end, and high end PS4 components, or even TV's with PS4 chips in them.
I just feel that new things have to be done by the platform holders if they want to stay relivent. Right now it is getting harder and harder to be different. Almost any company could make a device that played third party games, and meet or beat MS and Sony on price. Right now I think MS has a good thing going with Kinect, but Sony really has nothing setting them apart. With them being a HW company first, I think the best thing they could do is focus on that. The best avenue I see is expanding Playstation certified devices, and allowing other companies to support the platform (like 3do, but with support). This route would make more powerful hardware a much more viable option.

Depends, the newer versions are better with heat generation because they have shrunk the die, optimized motherboards, and merged parts to generate less heat, but each new generation where they are new consoles, the optimizations don't happen until much later, remember how big the PS3 phat was? the 360 still has it's power brick(which is a big bitch on heat) on the outside and they don't even use that much power. If wattage and heat ratio wasn't an issue, the massive RRoD would not have happened, you always have to be more conservative when designing these things. also, a 130-160W GPU doesn't mean much as they have the potential to go from idling at really low Wattage to upwards to 400W at peak, they'd have to tone it way down for consoles unless you go 1.) water cooling on consoles by default which is never gonna happen or 2.) big ass cases with lots of air flow and you won't need to buy a heater in the winter, which I literally don't when my PCs are on in my room lol.
my point is they'd have to tone it down a lot no matter what even on a 28nm process.

Sony will not go after ATI for a GPU when they have a great relationship with NVidia. Using a GPU like this is not only expensive, but also requires extra cost on PSU, Cooling and more. I think that both companies will stay with ATI and N-vidia respectively. Plus after the PS3 and 360 high costs and losses I doubt either of them will move to another CPU either. Microsoft paid a fortune to have Xbox games emulated, and Sony developes hated the Cell early on. Sony may move to a multicore Power PC based CPU if it can emulate the Cell processor in real time so they can make the PS$ backwards compatible, but..
One option they may take is to use several chips like the Tegra 4 for parallel processing. They are cheap, powerful for their size, Use little power, are scalable, and there are a zillion programmers for them. In some ways it would make sense for Sony to use something like these chips and steal away the 'Free Developers' from Android and IOS and let them make money on the PS$.
I sure hope they take this rode ;)
people love it when their companies don't go cheap on them as well as making them spend more and loos money in the proses!
if Sony takes this step I predict they will leave the console market and they will be featured in Nintendoes next gen (after WiiU) E3 conference in a grave along with the other console graves just like they did when they showed us Wii!
but that's what the fans like of course so I hope you guys get what you want :)

No, you do, because a higher baseline for consoles means less stringent hardware constraints for PC ports and tech development in the industry in general.
