Forums - Sales - Is PS3 set to dominate console sales for the rest of the year?

@Jay520

I work with consumers for a living. They know the difference. The "Super Slim" will give a boost certainly, any new hardware does but dont expect anything significant as its not going to happen

*Looks up "dominating" in the dictionary*.

Nope.

That's basically the same as what I initially said.

Hope springs eternal, eh?

don't be surprise if Microsoft announce a price cut right around halo 4 launch and the new slim without a reduce price won't do much except for the week of release after that I don't see them doing better then the competition

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

When the new slim is released, the base price in the US is 269.99, right?  The current base price is 249.99.  While you could argue that they added value with the bundle, you can't really argue that the price didn't increase.

The other models are still available, so the base price did not increase. This slim has a bigger hard drive, a game, and dlc for Dust 514 (forgot to mention how happy I am about that, Icelandic power fuck yeah!!) as opposed to just the old slim for $249. There will be plenty of deals for the holidays, don't worry.

The old slim will no longer be produced; so the old slim is only available until stock runs out.  WHEN stock runs out, the new base price as far as we know, is $269, that's an increase, I'm sorry if we can't agree on that, but it seems very straight-forward to me.

You are correct that holiday bundles MAY exist, but the current content and pricing of those bundles is TBD, no way to know how that will impact sales.

So given the information I currently have available, I'd answer no, the PS3 is not set to dominate console sales the rest of the year.

Eh nope, $269 is the bundle price not the stand alone price. The console by itself is $249, there is no increase in america.

With no price drop and no blockbuster exclusive, I think PS3 will be dead last this holiday.

It might get a little boost, but it certainly won't 'dominate'.

Not at all. The base model being $269.00 is cool but I don't see a $30 price cut making to significant and impact.

If Microsoft should counters with it's own price cut, it's a wrap. And I expect Nintendo to drop the price of Wii (maybe) and that would surely undercut it.

I see better sales for the PS3 for sure, but let's not get too ridiculous.

EDIT: So wait... is it true that this new slim model is actually a lesser value and even more expensive than the base PS3 model already available?  If so, what a fail.

Even though the base model is going up by $20 its still a better value since you get 90GB more HDD space and one of the best exclusive games with it Uncharted 3 plus some PSN stuff.  I'm sure that Sony will drop the price once that bundle is sold out and the base model includes no extras.

I will most certainly not be buying a PS3 this year. I had hoped Sony would reduce the price allowing me to pick one up real cheap. Then, with the rumors of a slimmer version, I reckoned "Well, that'll probably be the same price but with more storage and such". Here we are, slimmer version, more storage,......

And a higher price....
