Forums - Sony - [TGS] PlayStation 3 SLIM v2.0 CONFIRMED [9/25 NA Release]

I does look tempting, and those NA bundles look brilliant, but seeing not worth switching console just for the sake of it (especially this late in the console cycle). Also seeing as I live in Europe I couldn't get either of those bundles. Specs wise, I find it quite odd than Europe gets the worst deal considering the PlayStation brand is so strong on the continent.

Still feel an updated controller design is long over due.

Yeah this thing is a new level of ugly. Not that it matters though as its obviously being made on the cheap. Just commenting on its asthetics

Ugly/Beautiful is a matter of taste. For me, I like this monolithic design sony follows for its products

Im sorry but I though that the Ps3 slim 1.0 was better looking that the original Ps3.

Even I thought that the Ps3 slim 2.0 is the worst looking console this gen.

Its minimal or whatever they were thinking design it

Anyway I have 1 Fat and 1 slim ps3, I guess i'll get a superslim when its under 100euro..just for the collection

By minimal you mean Ps2 style?

No, I mean the design as a trend. Minimalism is when reducing a design to its necessary elements.

I prefer this type of design in electronic devices

12 GB Flash memory? Damn, Sony copying Nintendo again.

Lol, I know what minimalism is. Infact, minimalism is my choice of architectual work and design! Im all about minimalism both to electronic devices and architectual. I did rigorous research of minimalism early this year for my design portfolio.

Less is more. Sure I agree but dont cross the fine line between being minimalistic and being 'too simple'. And the Ps3 slim 2.0 is a fine example of being too minimalistc.

Although I praise the Ps3 slim 1.0 because of its minimalistc balance.

Yay!!!

dammit! I am waiting for a price drop not a price increase. Sony you guys are lame. LAME I TELL YOU!

EDIT:

Ignore the price increase.

From GAF:

Wii U White - ¥25,000
PS3 White - ¥24,980
Wii U Black - ¥30,000
PS3 Black 500 GB - ¥29,980

The prices shown at the top (for Wii U) is the price with tax, so I'm going to include the tax-less price.

Looks like Sony is good to go.

If only Nintendo could get out the Wii U in the Western markets for $249/299. But as it is, year one could be quite a bit of a struggle, unless they properly stagger some big games throughout the year.

The Yen strength is a bitch right now, $249/$299 was unreasonable with an exchange rate of 80 JPY/USD.

Finally picked up the Walmart.ca deal... Uncharted 1+2+3 and a 160GB for 199....

The initial cost to get the hardware has gone up. So yeah, its more expensive. People often look at the entry fee more than value. Perhaps this will help put more money in Sony's pocket. But it might also help the competition.

I'm relucantant to call this a smart move.

I don't know, people seem to really like new form factors for consoles.
At the moment, I think profit is the right priority for Sony, not marketshare. (Though I think this will help both)

People especially like new form factors when they include a price cut.. or atleast the same price. Not so much higher.

I assume some sort of sales boost with this new slimmer console. Don't think it'll be too significant though.

interesting no price drop. Sony must be wanting to maximise profits and think its prices, being the same as a new Wii U, will still be competitive.... however, I'm thinking they have too much stock of the old models and simply can't afford to drop the price until those are nearly gone, but they now have excess stock of the new models and need to announce it now at TGS as any later would hurt retail and the holiday build up.

There will be a change in skus with the three variants coming to all areas as well as a price drop before Wii U launches. There has to be. It should end up like the rumor from before: 179, 229, 279.
