Forums - Microsoft - Microsoft announces renewed Trademark for 'Killer Instinct'

Rare has such a great stable of IPs that aren't being used. Banjo, Perfect Dark (has potential still), Battletoads, Killer Instinct.... hell I even think Kameo was a decent game. Really hope they start making more games in these series.

Is it bad though, that I some what hope Microsoft farms out some Rare owned IPs to non-Rare studios

Yes its bad. In fact they should leave the game alone.

Microsoft's Xbox got carried by Call of Duty and Halo. So no.

RARE WAS creative in all genres.

Retro Studios are only ones that can revive franchises like Killer Instinct. In fact Retro Studios expanded even more.....

"... hired three developers from Naughty Dog (best known for the Uncharted series) and Vigil Games (the studio behind Darksiders)."

"In September, Crytek’s Director of Technology Mark Atkinson joined Nintendo. Atkinson is currently a “Consultant Software Engineer”."

"Eric Kozlowsky, a now-former Uncharted 3 artist, claims that his current project will be a major highlight in his career."

"Retro Studios expanded its staff with some employees of Vigil Games, Naugthy Dog, Electronic Arts and Red Fly among others. For its part, Nintendo has signed Mark Atkinson, former chief technology officer of Crytek, specializes in CryEngine 3."

Around the Network

Yeah, I loved that series but Rare doesn't have the same people working for them anymore.

Maybe they'll name it Killer Instinct Zero...

How good would KI3 do if they put it on Kickstarter

The only hope I have is that Rare made enough profit from Kinect Sports 1&2, so they might be able to invest more into core IP's. I can dream.
