Forums - Sales - At GameStop, Wii U Deluxe sold out in less than 2 days. The PS3, in less than an hour...both models

Just a heads up I can now confirm as of this morning we are 100% sold out of all Wii U preorders for both versions....sucks for those who missed out

Were the numbers similar to the PS3 pre-order supplies at the time (if you remember that far back)?

Around the Network

I cant comment on exact numbers, only that preorders are now a 100% sell through on both models

PS3 was coming off the success of the PS2 at it's peak and had ridiculously low supply for America.

The PS3 was under stocked to increase demand

Well maybe it's the same thing here?

do you really believe there some chance nintendo is under stocking the wiiU.. after coming from their experience with their most successful console the wii which was sold out for a number of years? really now?.. lets try speaking reality here not make believe.

Nintendo may have began manufacturing relatively late, not been able to ramp up production to a level to supply a ton of units, or may have kept manufacturing capacity at modest levels until they know how the Wii U will sell. Ultimately I think the third possibility is relatively likely ...

With this said, that just means that they probably won't be producing dramatically more systems than they had for the Wii at launch. If Nintendo was being very confident you might see 50% more units produced for the Wii U than they had for the Wii.

we have such information on wiiU production for you to say this?.. or just a guess also and speculation like everything else?

Edit: really Im asking if we have any evidence of this? lol

Just speculation ...

Nintendo has typically been a very cautious company, and I think it is far more likely that they would fail to meet production than over produce the system at launch. While it is theoritically possible that Nintendo could manufacture 2 million units per month, and might be able to supply 1 million units on launch day in North America I think a more realistic expectation is about half that; and I think Wii U demand could actually justify production that is somewhere in the middle.

Ben, I'm not sure if you mean you as in the chain or you as in your local store. And does that include Canada?

Gamestop USA sold out on all models

@ pezus

Wii U preorders FAR exceed already what Vita had at launch

The sales wont be compareable

Told ya this means nothing! ;o

But perhaps this means something?

http://www.gamespot.com/news/playstation-vita-global-sales-exceed-12-million-units-6351171

apparently sony believes vita sales are exceeding internal expectations for the handheld..

lets not bring up the vita.. thats the worst example you can give to try to prove a point.... lol

no it's a perfect example, since nintendo can say whatever they want to generate hype just like sony is doing for their handheld.. sony is saying vita sales are well above expectations.. when in reality they aren't as high as they can be..
