We need to be careful about which companies are completely sold-out, versus which companies are merely sold out on their online store, because those are two very different things. The vast quantity of Wii U's sold are going to come from brick and mortar. The allotments for online sales are just a fraction. My local Best Buy has a ton of Wii U pre-orders left as of Sunday, but the online allotment for the company at the moment is sold out until they hear more detailed numbers from Nintendo closer to launch day.

Didn't they set a date to come in a reserve it? That's what they did for Wii. I think it was Oct 20th. The date was set, everyone waited in line to come in and hand out cash to reserve one. Wii U had a date that Nintendo would give a price and colors and ect. then it was a free-for-all that very moment to reserve. I don't think it can be looked at in the same way.

Ask stefl1504 for a sig, even if you don't need one.

The important thing about pre-orders isn't how quickly they sell out, it is how many units were pre-ordered and how many of those are bought by scalpers ...

Hypothetically speaking, if Nintendo began manufacturing in early enough they may be able to ship 4 to 6 million units worldwide in 2012. While I could be wrong probably 2 to 3 million of those would be directed to North America, and if you assume that it will be split between six shipments (launch day + 5 weeks of Christmas re-supply) Nintendo will probably have 500,000 systems on launch day (with an additional 400,000 to 500,000 units being shipped every week). If you assume that 40% of the initial shipment was allocated to pre-orders then 200,000 units are available for pre-order which would be (roughly) in line with the number of PS3 systems Sony sold at launch.

This may sound like a lot of systems, but this is approximately how many units Nintendo shipped for the Wii and (given that the Wii demand was far greater than this supply) I think Nintendo would plan to ship at least this many systems.

apparently sony believes vita sales are exceeding internal expectations for the handheld..

lets not bring up the vita.. thats the worst example you can give to try to prove a point.... lol

Nintendo may have began manufacturing relatively late, not been able to ramp up production to a level to supply a ton of units, or may have kept manufacturing capacity at modest levels until they know how the Wii U will sell. Ultimately I think the third possibility is relatively likely ...

With this said, that just means that they probably won't be producing dramatically more systems than they had for the Wii at launch. If Nintendo was being very confident you might see 50% more units produced for the Wii U than they had for the Wii.

Edit: really Im asking if we have any evidence of this? lol
