Forums - Nintendo - Capcom: No online for MH3 Ultimate 3DS, Wii U version uses Nintendo servers, Tri server shutdown, lots more

whats the point of cross playing between the two versions then?

Wonder if the 3DS version will still have ad hoc multiplayer.

I don't get why the handheld games lack online?! Sure the main focus is local MP, but having both local and online MP would only add success to the already massively successful franchise, wouldn't it?

Oh so it will have local multiplayer.

It's fine, then, that's all it needed in Japan and the console versions are typically bigger in the West (I think).

For diehards like me and VicViper:

Sure will!

I will play a lot single player (maybe 2 player with my neighbor) in portable form, but I'm also pumped to get online on the Wii U!

That's exactly my plan too.  I'm gonna solo it on my 3DS when I'm out during the day or on the train and when I'm home, I'll transfar and jump online to hunt on the Wii U version.

Man, I cannot wait.

Or you can just buy one or the other.  Though not having online would make buying just the 3DS version kind of pointless to me, but some people might be fine with local multiplayer similar to the PSP MoHun gatherings in Japan.  The Wii U version will definitely be the one to get, but I'm excited about picking up both and transfarring between the two.

Hopefully Sven will be successful with this initiative and we'll get some sort of a bundle for folks like me who want both versions.  I'd want it retail though, not at the Capcom Store.  I'm gonna need this game in my house immediately!  And I'll just grab them both at Gamestop or Bestbuy on launch day if I have to.

Haha, me a diehard?

Yeah... hundreds of hours on MH. No, thousands! - not playing, but waiting and checking news lol.

To me none of this is a surprise... I want 3G for a long time and it is known for an even longer time it didn't had online. Wii U version with cross-save and online is a bonus, and a big one.

3DS game not having online play, that's sad. It's a trade off, but a sad one at that... :(

Looks like they are just supporting save-file transfer between 3DS and Wii U so you can continue your "journey" on the go. They don't expect your 3DS to be online unless you are at home... and if you are at home, then the Wii U gives you ability to be portable with HD and online within 8 meters or so of the Wii U console.

It is still odd that game wont support online on 3DS even with cross-play supported. There must be some technical reason for it... maybe 3DS already taxed just doing single player. Who knows...

The lack of online for the 3DS is unfortunate, but I don't do handhelds, so it doesn't affect me.

What I'm interested in is exactly how much extra content the Wii U version will have over Tri.
I played the hell out of the Wii game, so as much as I love MH, if I'm going to lay down the cash, I want to get more than just a few new monsters.

Also curious about the graphics. If they're just a HD version of the 3DS game, the textures will probably look ugly as sin, and improved shadows or not, 3G in 720p probably won't look much (or any) better than Tri in 480p.
