Forums - PC - Project Eternity kickstarter (Obsidian, $1.1 million goal, everything you want in an RPG)

Wow! It looks promising! And those old style isometric 3D games are gorgeous on modern hi-res screens, Torment, patched to use my portable's 1280x800, is gorgeous despite being so old, and higher res isn't just eye-candy, but makes it more comfortable to play too.

Check out my hype threads: Cyberpunk, and The Witcher 3!

OK! After much team deliberation we have one final ultimate stretch goal. At$4.0m we will be enhancing the whole game. We will use live instrumentation for the soundtrack, add developer in-game commentary, and use every dollar between $3.5m and $4m to enhance the game. Also at $4.0m Chris Avellone will be forced to play Arcanum.

SCORE!!!

I doubt they'll reach $4 million, but since all I really wanted was the extra city, and since the only appealing reward to me is the instruments... I am pleased.

The key here is that they avoid getting caught in a vicious circle of always expanding and enhancing and never releasing: they need simply to plot donations and determine to which asymptote they are converging, then something less than it will be a realistic final goal, reachable in a finite time.

Edit: P.S. OK, I had misunderstood the way kickstarter work, didn't read the bit about the time limit, this automatically limits everything and avoids the risk, although it could leave some regrets if the pledges collection goes a lot better than predicted... Anyway, wow at how well it went and also at how many backers pledging $100 or more they found, those must be really hardcore RPG gamers, not to mention, amongst them, those pledging more than $500!!!

OK, BTW I was wrong about a non trivial particular and I added a P.S. to my previous post. Very glad it all went almost for the best, I guess that if they miss the $4M goal by a little amount, they won't have many problems to find a sponsor to reach the most ambitious goal, given how well they did to collect most of the sum.

It's basically like getting Baldur's Gate 2 with Throne of Bhall right off the bat.

Edit: *checks the scoreboard*

with $3.75M + Paypal and 3 hours to go, there's a good chance they might hit $4 million.
