Unless the deluxe model is down to $199 by next fall, the U is going to get buried between 360 on the low end and 720 on the high. Even at $199, that won't be enough to win the holidays. |
And now you've learned the difference between trolling and critique. In this case, you backed up your critique with something, rather than just a hit and run "Wii U is doomed" comment.
Content is king, as the rules state.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.
I think he is betting on gamers behaving like gamers, and non gamers to have moved on with their lives. Really what he seems to be saying is this. There are enough die hard loyalists to float this console for a few months, but there isn't going to be a queue forming up behind them. He seems to be betting on us as a community to be vindictive when it comes to Nintendo. Well to be honest gamers can be pretty damn petty. A lot of us will probably be down on Nintendo without knowing what it is they are offering.
Before anyone gets morally outraged about what I am saying. Remember Nintendo turned their backs on core, and hardcore gamers first. Something they themselves have acknowledged. It doesn't seem unreasonable for him to take us at our word. Nintendo as far as a lot of gamers are concerned is a four letter word that starts with the letter S.
It just isn't all that far fetched. We can be real vindictive bastards, and we can hold grudges for years. We are slow to forget, and even slower to forgive. So Nintendo may well end up having to cut prices to deprive us of excuses for why we are going to deprive ourselves.
Interesting question for this community given what happened with the Wii. What argument would you use to get a core or hardcore gamer to buy the new console. If they feel that they were burned on the previous console. It is a serious question, because I thought a lot about it writing this response. I didn't come up with a way for Nintendo to make the case in any way that would work well.

I love My Wii U, and the potential it brings to gaming.

Yes I know: 4x the flash memory (that is what I like and the main reason I want the deluxe edition) I want the 32GB and the black color, but I also have to pay for NintendoLand and other stuff I don't want. I will gadly pay 320 for a black deluxe WITHOUT NintendoLand, but that option is not available. So I will wait and see, by the time the launch windows games are out I should have the console but don't know which version. |
But it and sell Nintendoland for $30 on Ebay.

Well the premium is 299.99£ on Amazon.co.uk and currently sitting comfortably at number 2.... Judging by its position on the charts, I think it will do extremely well, hopefully the momemtum will continue going forward and will not suffer the same fate as the 3DS did post launch at first. Only time will tell but I think Nintendo hit spot on.

Yes, that is plan B right now, but I don't live in USA, so I don't think it will be that easy to pull it off. I am hoping for a more flexible packaging from Nintendo by March of next year.
If sales are not right this holiday, Nintendo may think of a pricecut next year before they lose momentum against PS360 and eventually next gen consoles.

I think Nintendo will do fine.
Holiday season + consumers being hungry for something new (industry is dying on old platforms) + strong lineup of software will guide Nintendo through.
It'd not like these are outrageous prices. $299.99 has been seen as the magic bullet price point people will accept for a new console for like the last 15 years. Wii U has that. It's what Playstation 2 launched at.
This is not another 3DS launch.
New Super Mario Bros. U + Nintendo Land >>>>>>>>>>>>>> Nintendogs + Pilotwings Resort + Steel Diver (lol)
BLOPS 2 + Zombi U + Rayman Legends + Tekken Tag 2 >>>>>>>>>>> SSFIV, Ridge Racer 3D, Dead Or Alive 3D.
Wii Tablet U + Nintendo TVii >>>>>> 3D screen gimmick.
price cut in 2014, 2 years after its launch.
