Forums - Nintendo - WiiU to be $450 in Europe.

So we all know that companies like Nintendo etc. tend to just make a 1:1 conversion of the prices. When it comes to USD/EURO conversion. And totally ignore currency values.

Or in case of the 3DS "lie" and make it a "price set by individual retailers". Which just hides the fact they still give them a recommended price to sell at and just helps them that noone can point at them and say "Why do you make the thing so expensive here?!" so they can answer "We didn't make it expensive the retailers did!"

We still have no retail price for Europe but one for the US.

The white version of the console "the basic" bundle will cost USD299.
The black verison of the console "the premium" bundle will cost USD349.

So that would translate into a European price of

299 Euros or USD387.30 for the white and...

349 Euros or USD451.85 for the black version.

And the controller which is said to be half the price of the console would cost 150 Euros or USD 193.65

There still is the problem with VAT but its not + 29% like the price difference is.

(at least its better than the +44% price difference when the 3ds launched)

And "Europeans earn more money" is also bullshit because it depends on where you live etc.  And people who come up with this never say "Japanese earn more money than the average European"  so the whole argument is useless. Especially when the black version of the WiiU would translate into "only" USD 418 for Japan and not USD452 like it might cost in Europe!  (Well let's forget about this now.)

So what do you think? Will WiiU cost 350 EURO /~USD450 for the black version?

Or do you think it will be cheaper?

Discuss please!

P.S.
I will get a WiiU as a present so I dont have to buy one but the possibility of this happening still bothers me.

is the U region locked also?

No word on this yet but you can be sure it is because both Wii and 3DS which both launched after the DS (Nintendo's last regionfree handheld) are region locked. And the WiiU would be Nintendo's  first ever home console to be region free.

So I think there is no chance of it being region free which is a shame.

Of course it is. Nintendo has never released a system that wasn't region locked.

i was thinking on buying it on America for much less xD
i guess Nintendo knows that , thats why they lock their consoles

Who made the DS, then? Atari?

you can't just convert the price to say how much a console would cost in usa with european prices converted to dollar because they have the price without tax there and we have it with. if you really want to convert the euro to dollar price you have to take as example in germany the 19% tax out of the number.

in germany, the $452 would be "only" $380 without tax, so only $30 more than usa price.

From Wikipedia:

"The Nintendo DS is region free in the sense that any console will run a Nintendo DS game purchased anywhere in the world; however, the Chinese version games can only be played on the Chinese iQue DS, whose larger firmware chip contains the required Chinese character glyph images."
