I never doubted this probability Superchunk, almost a given. I wonder why you didn't include the full range of storage size for Vita? You should, along with typical contract pricing for iPhone 5. I admit the subsidizing really works on typical consumers, but I hold on to my $10 monthly plan with a crap phone and the only reason I will be looking towards a smartphone in the future is because of PlayStation Mobile. I can probably grab an Xperia Play for free then, the higher monthly payments....damn them.
Vita will be getting PS Mobile by the way, word is that it is essentially an Android Marketplace clone. You could add that, but I understand waiting for confirmation on its app capability. Vita might not be a phone (which most people find as a necessity item nowadays) but it is going to have all the other fixings. No contracts, quality dedicated titles, physical controls. Pretty sweet. People talk about power, it still is the most powerful dedicated device, but you're probably right about a 5 year life cycle. We are looking at a short cycle for mobile devices and Sony will look at creating something a few years after PS4 to do what they overlooked with connectivity between the two as well as match future plans with PS5...or PS cloud.
Vita is still a damn good pick and I would recommend that over a smartphone any day, regardless of power. You have to look at support, company policy, features, etc. Smartphones are big because they became multifunction devices, the Vita is becoming one this fall. It might lack the calling capabilities that make it an easy upgrade for most consumers, but screw them. I'm happy, and Vita owners should be happy too. It's not that hard to have a second device in your pocket, as much as I wish it was a true all in one device because let's face it, phones are important but the main selling point smartphones have over a regular phone is facing competition soon.
Anyway, thanks for posting the specs. Just one concern, how is the battery life expected to be? Does that A15 take a lot of juice? Will the 2000mAh be enough to make it functional? The Vita has borderline issues with battery life with the 2200mAh, for a phone to have around the same issue... disastrous. You mention it could have better battery life than iPhone 4s (which was disappointing wasn't it?), I want to know how so? To really get the use out of the device you'd have to enjoy high demand programs, is the iPhone 5 looking like a short lived gaming device? I'm sure running idle it lasts all day or more, but what if I play a few hours of the latest graphics pusher? Also, is there and advantage or disadvantage to a dual core?
