I really don't see the point of this thread other than you gloating about you being right about something which was going to be a given in that a future portable device would one day have superior hardware specs compared to the Vita.

As to your other point you are comparing apples and oranges. Dedicated gaming handhelds cater to a different market although I would agree that smartphones are taking a large chunk of casual gamers away.

The comments from Kowenicki and disolitude are hilarious as well. I wonder if you guys would be making such comments if this was an identical thread about a Microsoft device.

My point in these comparisons has always been the same, to support my idea that Vita should have been a gaming centric smartphone. I think it would have fared far better, been more profitable (not stuck to a lower price, contracts FTW!), and could be replaced/upgraded every couple years to maximise savings and broaden Playstation's mobile brand. The fact that it took less than a year for  phone to surpass it in raw power (and only opening day to surpass it in sales) shows that a dedicated handheld focused on the core gamer/high end tech is just a bad business decision. They need a more flexible design that can move with technology while providing superior gaming experience as well as the features a core-gamer aged 18+ is likely going to demand... i.e. a smartphone.

I get what you are trying to say but the fact is that Sony already has smartphones they release regularly.

Furthermore how would you address the limitations of touch only controls. Certain gaming experiences are simply out of reach with a touch only interface.

edit- Thanks for the link BasilZero

I never said touch only controls.

Look at the Xperia Play. Imagine it larger, with all the controls in Vita and of course the same power.

I literally think it should be a very high-end smartphone slider with dedicated controls and real gaming support. You know, everything Xperia Play is not.

Call it a hunch....

I suppose they could get away with a 6 core if its handled right though, but from what Ive been hearing 8 is the goal

Lol...thanks for being honest!!! I however will hold off on believing crazy rumors and speculations and wait for the official spec release or teardown.  The forums now a days are just filled with wishful or vengeful fanboys (both posters and writers) keen on making crap up or spinning things regardless of the facts on hand.

Cool.

If only the Vita could make calls.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

I never doubted this probability Superchunk, almost a given. I wonder why you didn't include the full range of storage size for Vita? You should, along with typical contract pricing for iPhone 5. I admit the subsidizing really works on typical consumers, but I hold on to my $10 monthly plan with a crap phone and the only reason I will be looking towards a smartphone in the future is because of PlayStation Mobile. I can probably grab an Xperia Play for free then, the higher monthly payments....damn them.

Vita will be getting PS Mobile by the way, word is that it is essentially an Android Marketplace clone. You could add that, but I understand waiting for confirmation on its app capability. Vita might not be a phone (which most people find as a necessity item nowadays) but it is going to have all the other fixings. No contracts, quality dedicated titles, physical controls. Pretty sweet. People talk about power, it still is the most powerful dedicated device, but you're probably right about a 5 year life cycle. We are looking at a short cycle for mobile devices and Sony will look at creating something a few years after PS4 to do what they overlooked with connectivity between the two as well as match future plans with PS5...or PS cloud.

Vita is still a damn good pick and I would recommend that over a smartphone any day, regardless of power. You have to look at support, company policy, features, etc. Smartphones are big because they became multifunction devices, the Vita is becoming one this fall. It might lack the calling capabilities that make it an easy upgrade for most consumers, but screw them. I'm happy, and Vita owners should be happy too. It's not that hard to have a second device in your pocket, as much as I wish it was a true all in one device because let's face it, phones are important but the main selling point smartphones have over a regular phone is facing competition soon.

Anyway, thanks for posting the specs. Just one concern, how is the battery life expected to be? Does that A15 take a lot of juice? Will the 2000mAh be enough to make it functional? The Vita has borderline issues with battery life with the 2200mAh, for a phone to have around the same issue... disastrous. You mention it could have better battery life than iPhone 4s (which was disappointing wasn't it?), I want to know how so? To really get the use out of the device you'd have to enjoy high demand programs, is the iPhone 5 looking like a short lived gaming device? I'm sure running idle it lasts all day or more, but what if I play a few hours of the latest graphics pusher? Also, is there and advantage or disadvantage to a dual core?

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

I agree...but the mainstream might not.  However, I still prefer the 3DS to the Vita in terms of number and quality of games that appeal to me.  Besides there is nothing currently on the Vita (in terms of games) that shows it is worth the $100 diffrence compared to the 3DS.

Lol all that money wasted on a silly contract. Home phone ftw.

Low blow superchunk...cherry picking one liners (make that one line) from our months of conversations and debates around this topic and then making as if you were right all along about eveything said is ridiculous especially when you were wrong with most of the stuff you said. You know what my opinions were on the matter.

I actually remember clearly stating that chances are there will be one or two phones equaling the PSV this year ( i even went on and mentioned the S3 and iphone 5) you actually then replied and said no ways the iphone 5 will be more powerfull...you said apple are usually behind android manufacturers and went on to quote some shit about the tec to be inside the S3 turns out the s3 was pretty mediocre. Which i called you out on in yet another one these threads...and somehow you made as if you were right again?

And by the way this whole topic started when you were saying the PSV was obsolete 5 months ago and how amazingly stronger the then released/announced smartphones at MVC were...i called you out on your bullshit again and typical superchunk style you change your argument over the months similar to what you did with your next gen consoles predictions then make threads about how you were right.

But whatever you the kinda poster than pretty much ignores responses and just continues saying the same old shit EVERY SINGLE TIME even if you are wrong.

I also said "make sure you are right before you post a thread saying that i was wrong", clearly you didnt listen not that i expected you too
