Forums - Nintendo - Wii U specifications prediction thread

I figured with all the rumors going around we needed a prediction thread, and if the specs are ever released we can see how well people's expectations lined up to reality ...

CPU: IBM POWER 7 CPU with 4 cores running at 3GHz. It has 8 memory controllers and is (essentially) a modified 8 core POWER 7 CPU designed to run in TurboCore mode constantly. Each core can support 4 threads, and one of the cores is reserved for background OS functionality.

Memory: 2GB GDDR5 running at 800MHz. 500MB is reserved for background OS functionality.

GPU: Modified  RV790 XT with 1200 Stream processors running at 550MHz

Edit: For clarification, Turbocore mode is a feature of thee 8 core Power 7 processor where 4 cores are disabled and the other 4 cores take over their memory controllers. I'm essentially suggesting that the Wii U processor has permanently disabled and removed these 4 cores reducing the manufacturing cost of the CPU while still allowing it to run in turbocore mode.

CPU:wii U will have one.

Memory: wii U will have some.

GPU: wii U will have one.

i ain't losing this one..

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

I heard it will be on par or slightly more powerful than the SNES.
So, I predict that it will be more powerful than the SNES.

The stuff that's been leaked sounds pretty accurate to me. People take the "3 Broadway Cores" a bit too serious I think but other than that it sounds quite real: Basically a PS3/360 with an improved GPU and twice the RAM. Sounds good enough to me and it will keep the price of the system down.

I thought all specs was pretty much nailed down apart from the amount of RAM.

In that case I will go with 1.5GB RAM. I will love it to be 2GB or more but I am sure nintendo will skimp.

I´m expecting 1.5GB RAM, with 1GB being reserved for games.

I think you're overshooting by a lot with that. That's a $400 system easy with a tablet thrown in. Fat chance it would fit into a case that small without melting it either. Not on a 45nm process for the CPU especially.

If the system was actually that, most if not all the launch games would be 1080p and things like AC3 and some of the other multiplat stuff would just smoke the PS3/360, they'd be able to use higher-end PC assets.

What you've listed there is probably going to be closer to what's under the hood of the Playstation 4 and that thing is probably going to be at least the size of the current PS3 Slim.

I've got a friend at Ubisoft Paris and I was told those earlier specs about 1Gb ram, directx 10.1 equivalent  and the low clocked CPU are the true deal.

He also said that Microsoft fans shouldn't be laughing much and those specs either.

no word on PS4.

People should move along and be happy Nintendo is still alive and kicking after more than 100 years in the business. If you like them, you'll accept them as they are: The Wii U is a bridge gen, and for many multiplat projects, it will be left out of the "next gen" equation, simply by being a another bastard Nintendo console, not because of power limitations since scalability is a massive player from now onwards.

Also, I'm full of shit. Its all lies.
