On the pressure from the industry to leap on to new hardware, Hines stated, “I don’t think the current generation of consoles are holding us back. There is still plenty that we are able to do visually, technically and from a story-telling standpoint. And there’s this huge built-in audience now”.

So similar graphical capabilities and more RAM = doesn't support their games.

XBox360 with less RAM = Supports their games.

Thank you.

Also, I'm pretty sure none of these excuses would have been given had this been the successor to the Xbox releasing first. (Is it current gen, is it last gen, blablablablabla)

It's a conspiracy!

But really as much as I love their games, especially Fallout 3/new vegas, it's almost like they love letting down their audience.

Well, they can't really say anything bad about the console for the company that pays them money for exclusive DLC.

Don't be surprised to find that the next title from them is XBox exclusive. Only XBox RAM can support their games, even if it much less.

It has magical properties.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Got a retro room? Post it here!

pretty weak announcement from them, just very cowardly to say you wont support something that doesn't have an big audience already on it... so basically they'd never take any risks or be the first people to support new ideas? if every developer done the same thing we would still be playing on the NES because no one wanted to make games for the Genesis or Snes because it didn't have a huge group who owned it.... BEFORE IT LAUNCHED, incredible.

ps. not for a second saying that playing NES would be bad still... I still have mine hooked up to my 42in in my gaming room :D

I have the NES in my daughter's room.

If you're gonna break them in you gotta do it right.

haha, yeah indeed I'm currently on my 3rd xbox360 this generation but I still have my original NES in PWO bar needing a bit of a blowing to get some games to work heh, cool thing with the NES for modern set ups is the RCA outputs on the side still produce perfect video output. always makes me laugh at my childhood self looking at my nes, it has the passwords for bubble bobble and Megaman2 wrote in pencil on the massive flat top of it, kinda like an early memory card I guess :D the surface can be wiped off with a normal pencil eraser tis what I used to do as a kid, but I love having it there :) happy memories.

So basically what he's saying is because Bethesda doesn't have any current games on the Wii, the Wii U is of limited value to them as a platform to bring either existing or new games to.  That is, until the Wii U has a proven uptake in adopters.

Had the Wii been a platform that Bethesda games could have worked on, then they would have had a following on the platform that might have given them a reason to put games on the Wii U.  Since the Wii wasn't a platform for Bethesda games, the Wii U currently would not be able to successfully support their games.  Either people who own a Wii are going to purchase the game for a PC, Xbox 360, or PS3, or they're not going to purchase it at all.

He's not bemoaning the power of the Wii U, he's simply stating the business case why Bethesda is not actively planning on the release of any titles on the Wii U.
