He does have a point, but you cannot tell other users to "Shut the fuck up!" I would have moderated anyone for saying this and would be expect to be banned for doing the same thing. People are allowed to put their input into how things are going around this site and this thread is encouraging it. We all have a considered voice here. Some people might be complaining more and contributing less because they are not happy with the current state of the site. It's okay for them to critique what they believe are the problems with the site. Some of those complaining used to contribute a lot. If one day you were to contribute less and try to discuss the reasons that you didn't, would you like it if your voice menat less. What we should be working toward is making everyone feel like their voice matters and address things in order to make the site a better place for everyone. Calling each othere names doesn't make this a better place for anybody. |
I agree that there's a way to say it, and I agree with the ban (though I understand Spurge's heart/intentions).
I understand that some of these people used to post more and have been turned off or away, but you get the sense that the complaints they are making would lead to a place they would want but that would destroy the nature of what the community has become by the nature of the newer members, something they refused to be a part of. If they had their chance, why can't we the newer ones? I have a bond with Spurge, Pezus, APM, MBP, Pie, Sal, and a bunch of more recent posters that mean alot to me, just like they did with you, Montana, Rol, Leo-J and all those awesome people. Though you guys had your fun, I'm not sure if the means they are asking for to return to that harmony is truly a means to the goal they propose, but rather a means to the extinction of the live breathed into these forums by the newer less aware posters. If they were able to figure it out, why couldn't the newer ones, what are they less able?
For instance, it's obvious when you return to the older golden days of the forums, that many of the posts were what these people today would consider spammy. Just people pulling each others' legs and talking about whatever floated their minds at the moment. I know I've read a few. A user like Rol or Soriku made it to their post count by some means, and you can't tell me Rol is always on topic or meaninful in his posts, he does harmlessly troll and there is nothing wrong with that. It's the same with pezus or me or Spurge, just one generation later. Maybe they don't like the taste of our posts, but it doesn't give us less reason to exist here.
You know I care about them, at least a little, you saw the thread I made about being a better poster. That thread was made using some of the feedback some of the people in this thread gave me. We ask them for how we can better ourselves, and we get little guidance, just a call for more nazism in the moderation team. Is what they want the way to go? Do you breathe harmony with rules? I look at your posts amp and they inspire me to be more happy go lucky, more relax and make just more lightness about things. I read Rol and I see someone that's very smart and knows how to be playful, and I see the same in users like noname and Khuutra and these are the examples we have in front of us. But if they never post, or when they do they do so sparingly, as if to the scum of the land, how are we supposed to follow into their footsteps, or be more like the posters they wish for us to be?
I know Rol tried to help me be a better poster, but his approach was harsh and in the long run it worked by making me more self-conscious of my shortcomings, but it didn't give me the example I needed to enter that dynamics you guys want or had. And then we're not even sure if that's what they want anymore.
So you end up just getting that feeling that there's no way to please anybody anymore.
