He does have a point, but you cannot tell other users to "Shut the fuck up!"  I would have moderated anyone for saying this and would be expect to be banned for doing the same thing.

People are allowed to put their input into how things are going around this site and this thread is encouraging it.  We all have a considered voice here.  Some people might be complaining more and contributing less because they are not happy with the current state of the site.  It's okay for them to critique what they believe are the problems with the site.  Some of those complaining used to contribute a lot.  If one day you were to contribute less and try to discuss the reasons that you didn't, would you like it if your voice menat less.  What we should be working toward is making everyone feel like their voice matters and address things in order to make the site a better place for everyone.  Calling each othere names doesn't make this a better place for anybody.

I agree that there's a way to say it, and I agree with the ban (though I understand Spurge's heart/intentions).

I understand that some of these people used to post more and have been turned off or away, but you get the sense that the complaints they are making would lead to a place they would want but that would destroy the nature of what the community has become by the nature of the newer members, something they refused to be a part of. If they had their chance, why can't we the newer ones? I have a bond with Spurge, Pezus, APM, MBP, Pie, Sal, and a bunch of more recent posters that mean alot to me, just like they did with you, Montana, Rol, Leo-J and all those awesome people. Though you guys had your fun, I'm not sure if the means they are asking for to return to that harmony is truly a means to the goal they propose, but rather a means to the extinction of the live breathed into these forums by the newer less aware posters. If they were able to figure it out, why couldn't the newer ones, what are they less able?

For instance, it's obvious when you return to the older golden days of the forums, that many of the posts were what these people today would consider spammy. Just people pulling each others' legs and talking about whatever floated their minds at the moment. I know I've read a few. A user like Rol or Soriku made it to their post count by some means, and you can't tell me Rol is always on topic or meaninful in his posts, he does harmlessly troll and there is nothing wrong with that. It's the same with pezus or me or Spurge, just one generation later. Maybe they don't like the taste of our posts, but it doesn't give us less reason to exist here.

You know I care about them, at least a little, you saw the thread I made about being a better poster. That thread was made using some of the feedback some of the people in this thread gave me. We ask them for how we can better ourselves, and we get little guidance, just a call for more nazism in the moderation team. Is what they want the way to go? Do you breathe harmony with rules? I look at your posts amp and they inspire me to be more happy go lucky, more relax and make just more lightness about things. I read Rol and I see someone that's very smart and knows how to be playful, and I see the same in users like noname and Khuutra and these are the examples we have in front of us. But if they never post, or when they do they do so sparingly, as if to the scum of the land, how are we supposed to follow into their footsteps, or be more like the posters they wish for us to be?

I know Rol tried to help me be a better poster, but his approach was harsh and in the long run it worked by making me more self-conscious of my shortcomings, but it didn't give me the example I needed to enter that dynamics you guys want or had. And then we're not even sure if that's what they want anymore.

So you end up just getting that feeling that there's no way to please anybody anymore.

This is not necessary. He's upset, and banned. Give him time to cool off.

That's the thing though.  We are supposed to allow these threads because there is only one of them on the front page?  If we allow on, then we have to allow all of them and it will turn into more and more.

But you won't have to... who are the people that make these threads? Me, MBP and Spurge mostly right? Despite what user x, y and z thinks we aren't idiots and won't constantly create forum games every day of every week. If the mods tell us once or twice a month is cool we'll stick to once or twice a month, no problem.

I'm not going to say that it's only you three guys because that's not the case and as MBP said, he hasn't done them lately himself.  The problem is that if they are encouraged, then new users will start making them.  But as I mentioned there was a point where there were loads of them a week, but that didn't encourage anyone else to start making them, and if one guy wants to join in on the creation then me or spurge or a mod can just tell him or her the guidelines. Simple. .Then what?  Am I supposed to say that only APM and Spurge can make those threads?

Rules are supposed to be across the board.  What Spurge got banned for, I would have banned anyone for.  I did not lock your thread, but would have and would like others like it.  Like I said, it's not like I want to get rid of the elimination threads or anyhting like that, but when they only call for one word responses, that's spam and clutters  the forums.

I don't see how 1 thread clutters the forums. There's what, 15 threads on hot topics thing? If only 1 of them is a forum game... I don't understand why that's an issue.  Hell, you get more threads where the OP is a meme or a link to a song or something...

I have to go out for a little bit, but will be back and will address anything that's asked in a civil way.

The topic of spammers is being heavily talked about amongst the mods, don't worry.

Thanks, this is great news.

As for insulting other users. I dont care. I've shown that before. If I want to go at someone, I will... Ive not done it since Jarrod.

And some people need to get over themselves.

This post is not helping anyone. Stop provoking the matter.

I'm glad the mods are actually looking into the issue of spamming. I was giving up hope, especially after I was harshly moderated for pointing it out... though I guess it could of done without insulting a few members and calling them spammers.

Well, you got what you wanted @above. How will you help the site now that the spam is gone?

One word spam threads don't help the site, Pezus.  They just increase people's post counts.

There's nothing wrong with the elimination threads, but the Word Game honestly didn't add anything to the site.

Okay. Then you should ban others who do not help the site and insult other users.

Carl's wall might be a good start.

But, I've only ever seen this reasoning, that the threads don't "help" the site. How do they hurt the site? How does increasing your post count in anyway hurt other users or hurt the discussion in other threads? Have the users complaining ever thought that maybe...just maybe many users enjoy such silly and pointless threads once in a while even though they can't?

But it does hurt the site because if a person that is a spammer sees that it's alright, then a massive amount of them will be popping up and people that like posting in those threads will create and post in twenty of them a day.  Then the site will go from a site that addresses video game discussion and sales into SpamChartz.  Most people come to a video game site discussing sales for those reasons (to discuss video games and their sales).  When they see that many of the threads are spam threads and that no one wants to discuss video games and their sales, they will go elsewhere.   There is a difference between a "silly thread" and a say the first word that pops in your mind thread.

Also, there is a rule that addresses spamming and it starts out saying - Content is king! (or something like that).  It's actually against the rules to create and post threads that contain no content.

So does prediction threads fall into this category or is it over looked because it is a sales site? Because most prediction threads lack content other than people guesstimates which are  usually just numbers off the top of their heads. So are the numbers spam?

And for the word game, a nice rule would have been you could only post once in thread, making it a little more interesting, reducing the number of post counts and we would see if the community would let it die.

If I was a mod, I would ban users who are perpetually negative because they drag down discussion.

We can't gang up on KylieDog like that!
