He said that the launch price of the Wii U will be higher than the current price of the Wii.

| lilbroex said: There are the rumors of it having a lower powerd processor. So maybe it got a fairly decent GPU and an upscaled Wii CPU. |
No. Just no.
You are talking about something literally hundreds of times off a decent, fairly priced Power processor nowadays.

well to be fair he did say that awhile ago and its not like he makes those decisions anyway.
That seems unbelievably cheap. At that price, it'd fly off the shelves, literally. But it'd also be underpowered, greatly. I hope Nintendo have learnt from their Wii mistakes; the 3DS would suggest that is the step Nintendo are making...
Then, of course, there is the fact that everything they have will not only be custom built but also be part of a special deal with the given companies so they won't pay nearly as much to manufacture them as it would cost for someone like me to buy it retail.
I can them maybe spending $90 on the GPU in the console out of their own pocket. The RAM is probably high quality so I will keep 20 for that. 30 and ship the controller. 30-40 for the CPU.
That would put costs from them at $190.

The Wii won this gen even if all sells stop tomorrow. I still don't undestand where people get the idea that Nintendo made a mistake with the Wii. The only mistake was no providing enough high quality games on the console, not the power.
With the yen/dollar exchange rate being what it is, I don't see how this is remotely possible.

| NightDragon83 said: $200 is laughable not just for the simple fact that there's no way Nintendo could afford to release it at such a low price, but also because if it were actually released at the height of the holiday shopping season, people would literally be killing each other to get one. It would be your typical midnight Black Friday scene at Walmart, except throughout the country and at any store carrying the Wii U. Edit: Not to mention all the price gouging that would occur in the 2nd hand market as people with no intention of actually playing the system snap it up and then sell it on eBay for about 3-4X the MSRP. |
That's the other point worth noting here. Nintendo left money on the table for years with Wii, and might want to avoid that again. Even if Wii U won't do as well as Wii, there's no point in not trying to milk early adopters a little. As much-maligned as Sony was for saying "people will buy it whatever we charge," it's largely true for early adopters, and its not unwise to milk them within limits (moreso than you could get away with with the mass audience, at least)

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

A long time ago, that was. Still likely, but the 3DS' start is something Nintendo are gonna avoid.
Also, Haxxiy, didn't Nintendo confirm the processor as Power 7 a few months ago?

I guess you're right, he did said that a long time ago, although it's still hard to believe
