Why does it need to be an huge seller, it will push consoles, and will also sell more than most of the PS3's titles lol. Why are you comparing it to the handhelds?

It could be possible that this is how Capcom's bringing Tri "G" to the US, a console version with online play (since portable monster hunter and non-online monster hunter really haven't done well over here), and then they'll back-port it (like they did with the US-version of Tatsunoko vs Capcom) to Japan to sell them the same game a 3rd time, because that will fly over there.

Because people are acting like it's the second coming.  I said in my post it'll push consoles.  But a re-re-release of a game that performs best on handhelds isn't going to be "game over" by any stretch.

Barely? It sold almost twice as much. And with subscription fees at that as well. Nintendo even paid for the advertizing costs in Europe. MH Tri on Wii easily made over 6 times as much money for Capcom than Monster Hunter Freedom on PSP did.

Monster Hunter Tri on Wii was an absolute succes for Capcom.

It will not only be a good seller... but also it'll be a good sign the series might continue on the console. Win-win situation. Just like announcing a DQ game, good chances there'll be others following.

Its not game over because of that one game, by the way its sad the WiiU could be getting MH before the Vita lol, its game over because of the collection of games the WiiU has already announced. You have to admit that is pretty hard to top in Japan if you arent an handheld.

I missed the "in Japan" qualifier, so yes, it did barely outsell Freedom in Japan. Still, Capcom made millions off the subscriptions and still are. I also think you shouldn't ignore how well Tri did in the west: definitely a lot better than Capcom themselves anticipated.

If you compare the sales of the Monster Hunter franchise in the West, it's been growing and growing with each installment.  Tri was just a continuation of that:

Freedom (2005) = 0.27m

Freedom 2 (2007) = 0.76m

Freedom Unite (2008) = 1.22m

Tri (2009) = 1.01m

I'm sure it has exceeded expectations, and I'm sure it'll do decently on the Wii-U if it comes over (even though I think these pictures are pretty fake).  But given the lower install base of Wii-U and the fact that it's a re-re-release, I can't see it pulling Tri's numbers.

edit: Unless they market it as the next big thing in online play using the Wii-U's improved online interface.

Japan are going to buy any Monster Hunter game, really.  I'm led to believe that Freedom Unite is just an expansion pack to Freedom 2 and that sold like hot cakes.  So I'm sure a third version of Tri is still going to do well over there.

Still, we'll have to wait and see if any of this is real.

edit: And I could well be mis-judging this all and it could just be Capcom's way of bringing Tri-G over to the West, instead of on the 3DS.
