That's true. In Pachter's recorded history, he was wrong seven out of seven times (DS, PSP, 360, PS3, Wii, 3DS, PSV).

I'm pretty sure Pachter predicted the PSV to not sell brilliantly - and wasn't he predicting great things for the 3DS at one point? Maybe I'm imagining things

Pachter said that the PSV would be dead on arrival, but later on retracted it and stated that the PSV's first three months total would eclipse the one of the 3DS. The reality is that the PSV is the worst selling major video game system since the Dreamcast.

About the 3DS, Pachter said that Nintendo is making a mistake by only charging $250 for it. They should have gone with $300, because it's going to have incredibly high demand. The reality is that the 3DS stumbled out of the gates which forced Nintendo to announce a major price cut and run their business at a loss.

So in both cases he was way off the mark.

But in-line with his pachterness.

Nah, he said Vita would succeed where PSP failed, there's a Pach Attack about it too, but no way I'm going to search videos.

Wii U though, he was never positive about... because he claimed the Wii HD would have to come sooner than that to make any difference.

Yeah, Pachter didn't get the Wii either - until it's sales kept mounting, year over year until it was undeniably the generation's winner.  And it's a stretch that he 'got' it even then.  He just admitted he was wrong.

However, while I got the Wii and predicted it's 20m sales in 2007, I don't get WiiU either.

What's not to get? It's the Wii-philosophy expanded with an asymmetrical component and new online inferface.

It's not.  It's the antithesis of the Wii.  Wii was about expanding to a new audience.  About simplicity.  About revolutionary new controls.

WiiU is a return to complicated control schemes (dual analog), catering to hard fought for, shrinking, core market, about emulating what others are already doing (Apple)  - poorly.

The Wii-kind of games are still coming to the Wii U and the Wii-controls are also key to the WiiU. The complaints about Nintendo E3, were that it was far to casual. Nintendo is clearly aiming for the blue ocean. Most (fear or) think so.

The Wiipad may have dual analog, but it also has a touch screen which most persons will use intuitively (Select drag - Select press). Sure, it's a reaction to the touch screen rage. But that's becoming the new norm. Nintendo can't ignore that. After all, they pride themselves on good, simple gameplay.

None of that makes sense, how is the WiiU an antithesis? Its backwards compatible with Wii and comes with one WiiU Gamepad. You make it sound as if Wii remotes were abandoned. According to you the Classic Controller should have harmed the Wii since its dual analog. Also please explain how is it catering to the core market? By having 3rd party support lol. Emulating what others are doing and then you use Apple as an example wow fail lol.

Why does everyone constantly quote this raving lunatic?

Who cares what this random guy thinks about anything? I just don't get it

Pachter is a chucklehead who claims to despise Nintendo, yet can somehow never seem to stop talking about their products.

Why do people keep posting about this guy's worthless opinions? These threads really should get locked when they're posted.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

Ah, Michael Pachter. You appear with the tedious inevitability of an unloved season.

Seriously, does this man ever give up?

Thank you, someone besides me has been paying attention. None of what we have seen from the WiiU screams core target at all lol. People say ZombU but what about Red Steel, i guess the Wii targeted core gamers to lol. 3rd party ports, didnt the Wii have Bully, Godfather, and Scarface, all 3rd party ports. The WiiU is obviously for the ninty fans and casuals, with alittle core thrown in to steal some sells from PS4 and nextbox. The point of the WiiU is to establish a base before PS4 and nextbox arrive, when they arrive Ninty is looking to have most of their games to keep their base from building. If they sell the WiiU to mommy and daddy or little john or jane, it allows them to target the core gamer in the household because the system is already within the household, so they only need to purchase the core game and that will keep them away from purchasing PS4 or nextbox, doesnt mean it will work obviously.
