Forums - Sony - Was the PS2 really for Everyone?

PS2=2Pac: From the hardcore to the casual, everybody likes/respects it. Covered everything. It will NEVER die, even when people thin it's dead.

Wii=Justin Bieber: Insanely popular and people who actually like it are ashamed to admit that they like it. Won't have the longevity of the one that's already "dead".

While I agree Wii brought in non-gamers and lapsed gamers (like myself) PS2 unquestionable was the casual console of the last gen. It may not have had a mass seller like Wii Sports or Wii Fit but DDR, Madden, GH, FIFA, Burnout, Crash Bandicoot, Sly Cooper, JaK & Daxter, Sing, Buzz, and even GTA were all popular with casual gamers. Burnout and GTA SA were the only games I played on PS2.

I don't think I need to point out the MASSIVE difference between those games (the wii ones and the ps2 ones) one of the main reasons the core is always so down on wii

Is this leading towards Ps2 vs Wii?
Ok then
Wiis top games are far better than Ps2 tops
and have better grafix

it must have been for everyone because everyone wanted one. i remember my mom going to about 10 different stores to try and get one because they were all sold out!

The Wii was sold out way longer than the PS2 so you have just confirmed the Wii is for everyone.

I don't like Sony very much (Nintendo 4 Lyfe!) but I have to say, during the PS1/PS2 years, that's where the bulk of my gaming experiences took place. More than any console before, and any console since (IMHO), the PS2 was THE console for everybody. It had games for the hardcore, the casual, the JRPG fan, the person that wanted to try something totally off the wall (Gitaroo Man, Mr. Mosquito) --The PS2 just had everything covered.

I don't think we'll see anything like it, ever again. The PS2 was the first console that was almost required. If you had a TV, you had a PS2.

You guys are overestimating its sells greatly lol. Have you not seen the graphs showing the Wii and 360 are tracking better in the US. It sold so much because it had redesigns and has been released in many different countries. It is not the behemoth you guys want to believe it is. Might i also add that what the ps2 did in like 10 years the DS did in like 6 lol.

It's a close to any console is probably ever going to get in terms of appealing to 'everyone'

What massive difference? The massive difference between Mario kart and GTA3. You would think the highest selling system of all time would have the highest selling game of all time.

You should ask yourself what longevity is? Is longevity selling for a long time in a single territory or selling well overtime because you are released in many different places making your sells look better compared to competitors which werent released in those territories.
