According to this image. Not sure of source, but it was posted on GAF. This is NOT official as it is user generated.

Interesting to note that if it does use wifi-n as the transmitter from WiiU to Gamepad, you should have no issue using it through entire home.

To me that pretty fucking awesome.

Looks epic!

It would be SOOO awesome if you could use it throughout your house!!

EDIT: Looks cool!

You CAN!! If you press the home button it activates house mode.

I was looking at wiki trying to compare the range of bluetooth vs wifi but I didn't really understand which class of bluetooth to compare it to, etc..

I stumbled upon this sentence though which makes me happier that they went with wifi.

"Wi-Fi uses the same radio frequencies as Bluetooth, but with higher power, resulting in higher bit rates and better range from the base station."

What is the difference between wifi-n and wifi? I didn't get too many sites to pull up from Google but I did find this which seems to be the site I should look at.  Sorry it is a Best Buy site but the top two wiki sites mainly had a bunch of numbers in it (one with N) when doing a wireless n search.  I assume it is just a better version of wifi (kind of like usb 2.0 compared to 1.0).

Weird how it distinctly states all of the peripherals it supports and yet fails to mention that it supports 2 tablet gamepads. Or even one, for that matter. :P

802.11n (300 mbps, what most people call wifi-n) is a higher throughput, better coverage version than 802.11g (54 mbps, wifi-g or wifi)

802.11n uses a bit less power than 802.11 b or g, but it uses a better modulation technique and several "tricks" as MIMO (multiple input, multiple output ->2 or more antennas) and bean forming to improve the communication with less emitted power.

Bluetooth uses the same band, 2.4 GHz, as it's free to use, but it uses much less power in the communications, so it has a much lower throughput.

I prefer wi-fi over bluetooth, can't wait for this beast!
