Forums - General - Apple Awarded $1.05B in Damages Against Samsung

somehow it is beyond me how MS gets sued in the EU for bundling the IE with Windows, while it is okay for Apple to make every iPod require iTunes (The iPod products have at least 85% market share in this market).

It is beyond me why MS always has to fight against the monopoly stuff with their Windows OS, while Apple has 70% market share in the tablet market and can even force other manufacturers to stop producing their tablets by law.

Sounds crazy to me.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

Haha Apple and their scamful patents (well scamful everything really), its been like this since they first came out with Apple computers.
now they're really butthurt about it, since they're losing.

does'nt apple already have enough money? haha.

Samsung should retort by patenting "a device that runs on battery power".

Patent law needs serious reforming. You cannot patent something so basic and fundamental as pinch to zoom, especially when you didn't create t in the first place.

Also, why is a jury making a decision based on a fairly complicated copyright law?

Yes, they're "losing" to the tune of being the most valuable company in the world.

This is the key that few are talking about. Apple is taking advantage of a law & patent system that rewards the most aggressive and litigous companies. While I don't like what they're doing at all, I don't necessarily blame them for it, either. They're acting just how a business is supposed to act; in a manner that is self-serving and makes the most money possible.

The real culprit here is a broken patent system that rewards patents for trivial items that are based on common sense approaches to problems instead of real innovation. Apple is one of the most innovative companies on the planet but things like Pinch To Zoom and Slide to Unlock are nonsense patents that should be freely available to everyone as the logical solution to a rather simple problem.

Actually if you look at the patents in question, pinch to zoom makes the most sense. I mean a patent for edge to edge display? Lol Iphone has one of the biggest bezels in any smartphone.
